We don't give the same respect to Korean and Vietnam veterans because they didn't win.

People didn't respect Vietnam vets and Korean wars vets
before they were not winning... Which is another reason why the WWII crowd is referred to as the greatest generation. Here on the home-front, women entered the factories en masse to produce needed weapons and equipment. Instead of trying to decide whether to vote to de-fund the troops, people were buying war bonds. The entire country lived under rations: everything from pantyhose to tires to shoes to sugar was only available in very limited quantities. My grandmother has some very interesting stories to tell about those days, and I think the current generation could learn a lot about the support that the country gave the troops during WWII.
Imagine if your groceries from the store were rationed for the war, while instead here we are trying to decide which HDMI cable to purchase for our new PS3. It's kind of like the Great Depression. I think our present experience is so vastly removed from these events that it is difficult for us to even imagine, let alone appreciate and show respect, for these times and these people who shaped our country...
There's nowhere I can't reach.
