With the computing power we have now with dual and quad core processors and production suites getting more and more powerful and less costly, I agree. I also see more people going to alternative tech just to set themselves apart, such as plugging a Gameboy into a blender and then routing that through some antique effects pedal or something.
Tools are just tools - it's the music that matters...
