I beleive the "illegal downloading" amounts to free advertising. I have yet to see any evidence that suggests that "illegal downloading" cuts into any company's profits in any way. In fact, it seems to be the other way around.
Most of the time, I download in order to sample the product. Jam it back in, in the dark.
