Nope, it's not just you! That said, this is more an issue with the composer being very selective in what he scores, because he can be. The only more selective composer I have heard about is John Barry who seems to take every job offered and ends up scoring practically nothing...
Basically, Basil Poledouris would be doing more film work if he wanted to. Though, he has enough money where it's not an issue and he does only those he wants to.
I saw a interview that goes more into detail about his "taking it easy" style of choosing which projects to take on. Will post a link if I can find it again.
