ipod music transfer help

For those who have ipods, what do you use to extract your music from your ipod with?
I was using an unknown version of winamp with the plug in, then eventually updated winamp and soon afterwards, everything was erased from my ipod.

http://www.slolane.org/archives/2006...s_ipod_pl.html
^theres the reason

Some of the signs that the new version of winamp was messing up my ipod was when I would connect it to itunes, then itunes would start scanning every song testing its volume or something. I thought it was just some useless scan til I disconnected in the middle of scanning and found out my ipod was erased cleanly.
Anyway, I did most of what the site I posted above said, and still my ipod did that irregular scan which scares me because I really dont feel doing the long tdious task of ripping cds again. Whats bothering me is that when I used the unknown version of winamp, everything was perfect, there was no scanning or bugs or glitches, it was perfectly smooth.

So in short, which version of winamp do you use to extract songs?
Ive also heard that foobar might be better, but Im not too informed about that.
Any help or suggestions is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I have a 5th gen 60 gig, and my computer only has a 40g hd, thats why I manually update .
Its fine now, but I imagine that when extracting stuff using winamp, as soon as I open up with itunes, its gonna scan and check ("determinig song volume", I think the scan says) and I just pulled it out a while back cause I didnt feel like waiting 2 hours for it to finish and I thought when I had the time to plug it back in it wouldve picked up where it left off and finish. I say its irregular cause its a scan Ive rarely seen, and Ive owned an ipod for about 2 years.

And your being a bit harsh now =/, technically your right, but winamp had no warning for its plug in. And who only uses the programs that comes bundled with?

AND TELL YOUR PEOPLE ITUNES SUCKS
=P

Sorry for the bump, but though I appreciate your help, Id prefer something that works with winamp or foobar.

So far, it seems any winamp version before 5.3 does the trick, but Id just like some reassurance.
