The first time I went driving, I tried to turn without slowing down, as I thought that I only needed to take my foot off the accelerator to slow down. I ended up about an inch from a lamp post, and my dad immediately drove me home. He refused to drive with me until I had a couple sessions with my instructor.

Hah! I had something similar happen as well. While driving around in circles, I had somehow gotten lost, so I decided to turn back the way I came. Well, I borrowed someone's driveway for the turnabout, and just at that moment, an elderly gentleman drove up the other end of the driveway, as it was one of those circular ones rather than the straight ones. Anyways, he got out of his car and looked straight at me, as I was driving pretty slowly, and that, of course, seemed a bit suspicious. He didn't do anything, though.
HOWEVER, I got lost AGAIN a couple days later. Somehow, I ended up doing a turnabout on the SAME driveway in the same slow, suspicious manner. As soon as I turned into it, I realized that I've been there before. Well, guess who was just stepping out of the house?
Anyways, he proceeded to yell and scream, and I drove away as quickly as possible.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
