Back in Ohio we used to have these toads that live in the old barbecue in the back yard, or somewhere in the backyard. They also liked to lay eggs in pools around the neighborhood. They would always come up on the patio and eat the bugs that were attracted to the back porch light along with the spring peepers and spiders. Needless to say that got really fat because of this. I used to play with them...I also found out they really like having their heads petted. It was cute. I was also the only one they never peed on when I picked them up, so that was a plus.
I also tried to raise some tadpoles (of the toads or the peepers I forget. But given the size, I'd say peepers.) that I got of a friend. I don't know if it was the chlorine from the pool that my friend fished them out of mixed with the well water or what, but they never survived to gain legs. They started to get the little nubs, then they died. That was disappointing to say the least.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
