Really weird laptop problem...

So I have a Toshiba Satellite... last night it randomly shut down. Okay... not too uncommon for a Toshiba Satellite you might say. However... the power button did not work after this. I destaticed it, put the battery in an out... the power button simply wouldnt turn on my computer, nothing would happen when I pressed it. I put it in it's case, and decide to take it in. I procrastinate, don't get around to it, and so I decide to try it out before I bring it in. Works perfectly. I'm on it right now typing this, the only difference I see is that the date is now January 1st, 2002...... can someone explain ANY of this?

EDIT: Okay... so right after I clicked post, I got a blue screen and all I had time to read was 'Make sure hardware is installed propery' although there was a lot more text, and the screen started getting lines all down it, then it started getting wider, and blurry, and I just shut it off.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

It could be that the power receptor on your laptop is loose, and is not supplying AC power all of the time (I am assuming you had this plugged in when it died). Is you battery fully charged by any chance? Beyond that, I would say the motherboard would most likely need to be replaced (as you couldn't turn it on when plugged into AC power), so that would be something to have the shop handle. Before doing any of that, get the error code when you BSOD in case it is something else (such as bad ram or a failing hard drive.)

And just to re-iterate you also need to have your CMOS battery replaced, as it isn't supplying the necessary power to store the information in your CMOS chip when power is lost (which would most likely get taken care of with the motherboard replacement).

Laptop was plugged in, mobo has already been replaced in a previous incidenty. Funny thing is, it's been like 2 weeks since this happened... laptop has run flawlessly.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
