1> Envy transformed into the dragon near the end of anime series (episode 50 or 51) when he crossed over the gate. As to how he did it, I have no idea...
2> Alphonse used them as the sacrifice to open the gate.
3> Because Hohenheim used himself as the sacrifice to open the gate, along with Alphonse using Wrath and Gluttony.
4> An explosive device created by that crazy physicist.
5> Plot hole? I think they're supposed to be manned.
6> No idea.
7> Yep, she's dead.
8> No idea. Maybe more plot holes?
Spoiler:
Envy's power is shapeshifting- that's how he transformed into the dragon. I have no idea why, but in general, the Leviathan (the actual name for what Envy transformed into) is the mythical creature that represents the deadly sin of Envy. So that's the link; why it was used is a mystery to me. I think as pretty much the head of the Homunculi (bar Dante obviously) he deserved a better death than the one he got... i mean Pride's death was really drawn out, and he wasn't even known as a villain until ep 40
I personally didnt like the movie anyway.... no where near as good at the TV series
Spoiler:
I blame it on the fact they killed most of the main characters too early... Dante and Lust for example should definately have been in the movie. (Yes, I know Lust from the "real world" was in the movie sat next to Scar at the end of the movie, but as far as i'm concerned, that's not Lust
Who is Pride? I can't find him in my FMA book. Is Pride = Dante? I have all characters in that book: gluttony, lust, envy, wrath, greed, sloth but can't find pride. Normally it should include all 7 sins...
Didn't know Leviathan was representing envy, thanks for that info.
Another question: in the anime they never mentioned you had to sacrifice someone to open the gate, or I didn't remember it. Lyra just touched the baby's head and the door opened. I think the baby represents death and birth meaning reincarnation. Also the portal seems like a door to the afterlife or something, Izumi says it's hell, but it could also be heaven.
In theory to open the gate we saw Alphonse, Izumi's baby and that other baby being sacrificed. I don't remember if rose's baby was really sacrificed, the end went too fast for me.
Spoiler:
Yeah, Summmonmaster is right- Pride is the Fuhrer... he has an Ouroborus on his right eye (that he always keeps a patch over). Dante, on the other hand is Pride's creator.
Right.... with the whole baby and the Gate: first remember that Lyra= Dante. Lyra died shortly before Greed when Dante stole her body. The gate can be summoned either by sacrificing a human or homunculus using the right transmutation circle (eg. see Wrath and Gluttony's death) , by attempting human transmutation, or by using an infant with the correct transmutation circle. The reason it works with an baby is because their mind, body and soul are still connected. If you watch any time the baby is used to summon the gate, the circle appears on it's chest. I agree with your theory about the baby representing life and death. Dante confirms this too I think in her confrontation with Ed "....It's doing all a baby can do to survive- breathing, crying for help... but what does it get in return? Was the baby born only so that it could die?"
Rose's baby wasn't sacrificed- it is in the film, but I am unsure whether or not it died then in the end... it's really bugging me so i think i may go and watch that scene again now...
