You get consistent quality with 320k as well, then. Every frame is encoded at the highest possible quality.

Even with this mindset, it still depends on the encoder you use, as every encoder will decide differently about which 320k of each frame is worth hanging onto.
But the point that people here are trying to make is that the difference between high-quality VBR and 320 CBR is so incredibly minute, that it's not worth the large jump in file size. CBR is inefficient, and that's the bottom line.
If you are so concerned about quality, just go lossless. Seriously. If you're such an audiophile, then why settle for anything less?
