What kind of laptop is it, and processor does it boast? Some CPUs will run hot just because they're power hungry, and that's something you can't really fix short of underclocking. My recommendation, if you're technically proficient, is to disassemble the thing and apply new thermal paste to the CPU heatsink. Do the same if there's a heatsink for the video card, those can get just as warm if you play any games.
