Try listening to songs like War Within a Breath, New Millenium Homes, Wake Up, Township Rebellion, and basically any other song they didn't release as a single. It sounds to me that you are basing your opinions on the few songs released for radio airplay, and if that is the case I see your point completely. However, many of their tracks revolve around a very fluid rhyme scheme and hardly contain any phrases that repeat.
I'll never forget the first time I heard of Rage Against the Machine. It was seeing their show on CNN that helped spark riots at some political convention in the late 90's. I thought to myself "wow, such impact all from a song" and was hooked from there.
And then there are lyrics such as:
"Like swollen stomachs
In Appalachia
Like the priest that fucked you
As he whispered holy things"
Words such as this invite social change and encourage listeners to think about it through the images they take away from the music. I know I did.
