Yeah, the Lunar games were pretty goddamn anticipated for me. I just gave up on Silver Star Story until I just saw it one day in a TRU and immediately bought it. Eternal Blue I pre-ordered online, I think on Amazon or something, and it kept on getting fucking delayed. Nearly drove me insane.
Zelda OoT I pre-ordered at BB and got this N64 game binder that had the Zelda logo on it. I didn't know what the fuck EB was at the time, but that didn't prevent my frothing need for a new Zelda. I felt the same way about Majora's Mask (Which I still feel was a disappointment) and Wind Waker (Which was good, but not nearly as good as OoT). The only reason I haven't pre-ordered the new Zelda is because I'm still not sure if I'm getting a Wii.
I admit to falling into the hype that was Final Fantasy VIII as well. I played FFVII on PC, and FFVIII was one of the sole reasons I bought a PS1. I bought it soon after FFVII came out and got Parasite Eve, which had a demo of Xenogears which I thought was cool enough to ask my mom to pick it up for the holidays, which I enjoyed far more than FFVIII in the end. (My dad ended up buying FFVIII the day it came out in '99, the same day as the Dreamcast launched. My head was filled with delusions of Sony purposely making this release date to upstage the DC launch)
Xenosaga was one of my most anticipated games ever, to be sure. I was mostly hoping for it to be as good as Xenogears, but I never could get into it (READ: I reached a boss that I couldn't fucking beat after nearly 30 tries, and gave up.). I have all three games though, and I intend to give them another chance soon.
I admittedly gave into the hype of Fable, and while I certainly didn't think it was as disappointing as some other people, I thought it was a great game. I actually beat it twice in a row before moving on, one good and one evil game.
Recent launch obsessions have included Oblivion (Which is awesome, but I'm not into it as much as I thought I would be. Looking back, I couldn't get into Morrowind either, so I'm not sure why I thought Oblivion would be different, although it is unquestionably better), and Dead Rising, which I was heralding as the second coming of games. It's awesome, but not THAT awesome.
Nowadays I usually just pop into stores the week games come out, or a week after, since I can usually get them cheaper that way. I don't mind missing out on most of the bonuses, so I get more games in the end.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
