Shadow Hearts series
Koudelka (prequel to the series) - Horrible, horrible gameplay. Fun characters and good voice acting. Plot's not bad either. (7/10) Shadow Hearts 1 - Gameplay's funnish, but not too spectacular. Plot's top notch and so are the characters. (7/10) Shadow Hearts 2 - Gameplay is great and improves on the first one in every way. One of the best games out there. (9/10) Shadow Hearts 3 - Gameplay is better, but everything else is worse compared to 2. Try the others first, if you like the gameplay, move on. (8/10) Valkyrie Profile series Valkyrie Profile - Great gameplay, so-so plot. Most of the good plot stuff is in the last 3 chapters and only if you go towards the obscure as hell A ending (total FAQ-bait). (9/10) Valkyrie Profile 2 - Objectively, the gameplay is better. Subjectively, I liked it less. Plot's improved though, since you actually get some throughout the whole game. (6/10) Dark Cloud series Dark Cloud - Gameplay is complete and massive failure. Didn't get into the plot either. Probably one of the worst games ever. (Note: I didn't finish it so take that opinion with a grain of salt.) (0/10) Arc the Lad series Arc the Lad - Gameplay is pretty bland, as is the plot. Fortunately it is short and painless. And also gives you import data to the sequel. (3/10) Arc the Lad 2 - Gameplay got a vast improvement, but the game is much longer and a lot of people get bored before the end. Plot's improved too, I guess, but still nothing great. (8/10) Arc the Lad 3 - Game fails. Stay away. (2/10) Suggestions Shadow Hearts series. Start on Shadow Hearts 1 because Koudelka gameplay fails at life. You might like all three. Valkyrie Profile series. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
