I struck gold today at Toys R Us, so now I have my Wii as well. We strolled in at 11:15am, vaguely hoping we might find one lonely Wii hidden in a corner. Instead, we found them lining the shelves above the counter and stacked up back there as well. They'd apparently just finished unloading a new batch, and I got the 15th from the last Wii.

I won't know for sure if it's defect-free until I get home Sunday night and can hook it up, but I'm not concerned. The wiimote's battery case is a bit loose, but only enough to make a little clicking noise when I hold it.

My dad decided I could have it and Zelda early (rather than wait til Christmas) after he had fun with Wii Sports, so now I just have to get through the next two weeks of final papers and exams without becoming too addicted. That's going to be painful. ;_;

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Not sure how many they got in, but it was at least 30. They even announced over the intercom when they had 8 left since no one else was getting in line. I think they just wanted to get it over with so the woman giving out tickets could get back to doing her normal job.

Last I heard the Opera browser will be available around the end of December and completely free until some time around June 2007.

I'm glad to hear the bug was fixed in the second batch. Hopefully I won't have to worry about that problem then.

What about the Wiimote memory? I used it to transfer a bunch of Miis I'd made on my brother's Wii back to my own.

Well, my Wii wasn't set up yet. It was actually much easier just to pop 10 or however many it held onto the Wiimote, then drop them all off when I got home.

I think Farcry and Call of Duty 3 (unless that one's been updated since I last saw it) just suffer from lazy developers. They got the idea of graphics not mattering at all on the Wii, so they didn't bother to put forth any effort at all. Both of them are on pretty much every system, so they probably didn't consider it worth the time and money to tweak the graphics just for the Wii.

What was the purpose of the second update, anyway? I got my Wii from a Black Friday shipment, and it only downloaded one update that was supposedly just for the parental controls. I've tried telling it to update again, but it just re-downloads the same one. Did they remove the second update in the US because of the bricking it was causing?

Infernal, your issue sounds like what happened when I got a bigger TV this weekend and had the sensor bar a little too far back (it was blocked by the TV itself when I sat on the couch). I'd say it's an issue with the sensor bar itself, but that's really weird if it's only affecting the main Wii menu.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

As a very brief review (since I've only played a couple levels of it), I'll say that Elebits is definitely worth picking up. So far I only have two big complaints:
- Doors are a pain in the ass. Closet doors constantly want to close, so you pretty much have to go into the closet just to block them. Room doors require you to turn the remote for the door knob as you push/pull, and it's a somewhat difficult motion to do.
- It makes me motion sick fairly quickly, which usually doesn't happen with most games.

I'm also a little concerned with the number of levels in story mode. Since no one's mentioned it being too short, I assume there's more after these house levels. I'm over halfway through those and they just now started adding the object breaking limits.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I dunno, I haven't honestly been looking forward to those three games nearly as much as others like Sonic, Fire Emblem, and of course Smash Bros. Brawl. Phantom Hourglass will likely take a backseat to most of the stuff coming out in February/late January for me anyway.

This seems like a pretty unlikely rumor anyway, especially now that the Wii TV commercials are even using Metroid Prime clips. They're all games scheduled for March, April, and June. It seems strange that they'd all be bumped up by 6-9 months.

Has the Bob Ross game gone back into development? The last I heard about that was an article on Gamespot several weeks ago saying it had been put on hold due to legal issues. Not canned, but no work was being done on it either.

Here's the article about it.

GameSpot contacted Joseph Hatcher, head of AGFRAG to confirm the message. Hatcher reiterated the previous statement, saying, "We will not be developing the game on any platform." Citing legal reasons, Hatcher was unable to give details of his company's decision. However, he did leave the door open for the game to live on. "We are not saying it is canceled in anyway," he told GameSpot.

I used Rayovac rechargeable batteries for my GBC and GBA several years ago. They had a pretty good battery life for a few years.

Slayer X's article is nothing new though. They got their information from CVG as well, and also noted the same thing Infernal said about the delays possibly only being PAL.

Why don't you just cancel it and buy one in a store? They're becoming more readily available now.

Yeah, the default batteries that came with the Wiimotes were different in some cases. I'm not sure if they're all different or if it was a matter of which shipment the Wii came from, but my batteries lasted twice as long as the ones my brother's wiimote came with. They were completely different brands.

Quote:
Use only alkaline batteries. Do not use lithium ion, nickel cadmium (nicad), nickel metal hydride (nimh), carbon zinc or any other non-alkaline batteries.

Do not recharge the batteries.
I think that's the same warning they've been using since the original GameBoy, so don't worry about it.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Alright, this Wii shortage is very annoying. I've spent every day for the last two weeks calling two Circuit City's and four Gamestops, and they never have any in stock, nor do they have any idea when they'll receive any more.

Has there been any indication at all when Nintendo is going to step up the production? One Gamestop employee told me that he heard the possibility of Wiis becoming more available within the next two weeks, but that's been it.
You do know that most store employees have been instructed to lie about Wii availability over the phone, right? The only time you can be sure you're getting a straight answer will be if you're in the store, and they usually sell out within a few minutes. I've seen one EB with Wiis and that was the case.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

And you do know what a pain it would be to drive to those Gamestops every day to check if they actually have the system. I'm not dismissing the policy you mentioned, but a few times the employees over the phone have been pretty honest, saying things like "we got a few yesterday but they sold out in 30 minutes". I have a little more trust with the GS workers than the people in Circuit City (not once has someone from the game department picked up the phone; I've had to call other departments to check. Of course I just learned there's an Operater option, but I'm not sure their word is completely reliable either).

I have a $20 gift card from Best Buy as an xmas gift. I was saving it for Zelda, but I don't mind using it for a Wii either. I guess I can try calling them tommorow, but I'm not holding my breath.
Well yeah, you wouldn't want to drive out each day either. I'm just saying don't depend on calling them. Even if they had any they'd likely not tell you since they would probably be sold out by the time you got there. You just have to rely on luck, as the chances of you getting an employee nice enough to tell you the truth and hide a Wii for you are about the same as walking into a store just in time for a shipment. I know a lot of people around here who are still frantically searching as well.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Like any console, there are plenty of games that could be played without being able to read the language. Hell, it may even be a blessing to enjoy Elebits without having to listen to the crappy voice acting. Anything other than RPGs and games like Zelda could probably be figured out easily enough with an FAQ, and I know from experience with Kenshin Dragon Quest that the DQ Heroes game would still be fun in Japanese.

The biggest advantage to owning a Japanese Wii would be the Virtual Console. As you can see, every region except Japan is currently getting shafted on the SNES selection.

It really comes down to whether or not your boyfriend is willing to put in a bit of extra effort to play the games. Hell, you could always just buy a Japanese Wii and an American Wii for only a little more than the cost of a PS3.

The only problem I have with the News Channel is the lack of an actual date for each story. All you have to go by is what the article itself says, and that's a little hard to discern when "yesterday" is the only clue. Other than that, I'm impressed by the large, varied number of stories they have up.

We can only hope that they'll actually learn something from region-locking Mario Strikers and make other games worldwide. It seems like a whole new level of ridiculous for Nintendo to do that.

The professor on Big Brain Academy's cover is far too phallic for my liking. I do not approve of nudists on my Wii.

You've been watching too much of teh pr0n, Tritoch. The Professor looks like Mr. Peanut to me.
Mr. Peanut isn't flesh-colored all over. The Professor is obviously the only Mii there who lacks clothing of any sort, and that means Crazy Black Guy has a very nice sexual harassment case.
