The most desperate thing I've ever done ... wow, that's hard. My parents were dirt poor, so I'm sure there must be a ton of stories that I've just mentally blocked out or something. Hmm... well, I remember one time eating frozen egg rolls from the bottom of a neighbors deep-freeze when they were on vacation. I also vaguely remember using duct-tape and epoxy glue to shore up some plumbing before a big freeze one winter when my parents were off galavanting, because I knew that those pipes were always the first to go and two of my siblings had a room in the basement that would flood whenever they did.
