I usually find something in the first place I looked. Not the first time I looked there, mind you. Usually I will wonder where something is, look for it where it should be, and fail to find it. Then I will look everywhere else, and eventually get desparate and pissed off, only to find it exactly where I always thought it was, just strangely hidden behind a stray piece of paper or something.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
