I remember as far back as 1999 with clarity. I spent that new year, and the next two with the same group of buddies. We used to live together for a while, and we always went out togetherfor a few drinks on New Years. We've all moved to different parts of the country though, so that doesn't happen anymore.
I didn't go out at all for New Years 2002, because that was a bad year, and I wasn't in the mood to celebrate anything for most of it. From 2003 to 2006 I saw in New Years with a succession of house parties, but now I've decided I want a quieter celebration, so I'm spending this one with my girlfriend. Just the two of us.
I'm a bit said to not see my friends on New Year's Eve, but most of us are spending it with family or loved ones this time. None of us party quite as wildly as we used to.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
