So... odd... Nintendo's handling all aspects of the port or something?
Needless to say, it was my first true addiction of a game. Level design makes Mario Kart look like a one inch ruler that only measures by inches. The only thing I don't like is the trick to getting good times, which involved rapidly buttonmashing the accelerator and stuff, hurt my thumb back then. EDIT: Of all the characters, Timber is the one I actually keep forgetting ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Anyway, Darkmoon Caverns > Greenwood Village. And this isn't even taking into account the loops at the end or the music. It was a fantastic stage in it's own right. Loved it's systematic design, the organization almost seems like it came from DKC. Anyway, I saw the video. Gameplay looks a bit different, but that's okay, the Level Design is where DKR shines. Particularly the boost looked different. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
I never found the Silver Coin Challenges to be too hard, until the 2nd quest where they Mirror all the courses (like extra in MK64), make the CPU much faster and put the coins in ludicrious places. Took me like 30 tries just to FIND all the coins in Frosty Village (There's like a XBOX sized area with thousands of trees, how was I supposed to know the coins were in the FAR LEFT AND RIGHT of that area).
I do remember getting so good to the point where I could beat Wizpig (both of them) in my sleep. Even the cheat code "TIMETOLOSE" Which ramps up the CPU difficulty to insanity couldn't stop me. Unfortunately, it wasn't till years later after I lost the cartridge that I realized there were Staff times in the game that I completely forgot about ![]() I hope they do retain the difficulty level, to be honest. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Wow I don't know what the hell just happened until I saw a commercial a couple days ago. It's actually out?! How could I forget about this?
Oh well, I know what my top priority tomorrow is. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Boosting sucks, I agree, and there are some weird as hell tasks in this game that I can't tend to grip myself on. The boss touch challenge during the 1st and 3rd bosses are annoying as hell, despite the artificial additions of things that can help you like picking up an item by touching it.
Hovercraft kicked so much ass in the N64 version, actually, but I can understand the complaints here. Also DKR owned MK64, what is wrong with you people. I even use the car most of the time, who cares if it's a ripoff. Level design: MK64 was one of Nintendo's weakest endeavours in this department; DKR toppled it. MKDS's level design, however, is still unsurpassed. Also no snaking, so there should be no complaining on a large scale from the internet. But I'm enjoying this a lot. I'm gonna try to unlock a lot of stuff before I head to Wifi. However, the biggest flaw is THE REMOVAL OF THE PIRATE LAGOON MUSIC IS THIS SOME KIND OF A JOKE I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
