(I don’t know the meaning of the word “soon”)
In the Country: I find it fascinating when I am able to listen to a song 3 times in a row and still say to myself: “the hell just happened”. 2 points: Neo Megalopolis 2 points: Albona (extended) 1 point: KARINA ~hichimenahochi~ 1 point: Title Missed: Touch Down!, Mischief Great week! All of the tracks I awarded points to could’ve given last weeks’ hero Scramble Attack a run for its money. I heard that Kohei Tanaka was a VGM legend way back when, though I’m not familiar with anything by him. Hearing Albona (extended) however, damnnnnnn now I’m extremely curious. Best use of sax in a long long while. Just ridiculous instrumentation all around (synth bass what). Gotta check out his stuff. Speaking of stuff I’ve got to check out, how have I still yet to listen to Ishikawa’s non-Kirby works I don’t even know. Neo Megalopolis is just so good, like a superior F-Zero tune if that’s even possible. So much awesome going on in this tune it’s impossible to talk about it all. Speaking of 16-bit goodness, hearing Tim Follin rock the FM Synth is a treat. Don’t think I’ve heard a Genesis tune by him before, honestly I didn’t even know Title was by him until I saw the tags afterwards, even though his style is so blatant here. KARINA ~hichimenahochi~ sounds like 70s gameshow music, with added “doo do dooo do do oooooo”s. This is a very very good thing. Super impressive compositional prowess shown here, but this is to be expected with THELONIOUS MONKEES and their team of superhumans. The other 4 tunes can’t match, but that’s ok, not much can. I’m sad at the fact that there is no possible way for me to give Touch Down! points though; Funky beats + vocal samples + vintage Zuntata usually equals big hit for me. Praying Hands (Cloud Castle BGM) is good, but not one of the tunes I would’ve chosen from the often overlooked Belmont’s Revenge soundtrack (it’s all about the boss theme “Evil Gods”). And Mischief, well it’s Kikuta, that's good enough for some I guess. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
