Wow, completely missed the call for JBCS week. I actually know of some vocal tunes that I would've liked to see in SOTW, so this is unfortunate.
I'll be dropping the vote shortly. Right now all I've got to say is: this week. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
1 point: Symphonic Poem ~ Forbidden Prelude
1 point: Lullaby 1 point: 4-00 AM 1 point: Film 1 point: Twilight Space 1 point: Just Desserts Just missed: Options ~ Game Over THIS WEEK. Christ it's so good, the point spread doesn't do it justice. Every single one of these is standout, with the exception of one. Why are the weeks so good recently. Lullaby is real. Though I have reservations about the vocalist's voice, the vocal melody is actually my favorite part, which is saying something considering the stellar jazz work in the background. Hey there, Forbidden Prelude. I enjoyed this track mildly well back in that previous BSC, I am now completely in love with it, as I am with the rest of the soundtrack. The poor mixing/mastering job is one of the biggest travesties of VGM. Wasn't expecting much from Twilight Space when it first started playing with that generic drumbeat, but wow the melody and pretty much everything more than made up for it. It's rare I'm enthralled by these kind of tunes nowadays, but when I am, yeahhhh. 4-00 is one of my favorite Nanosweep tunes, though I've only heard Nanosweeps 3 and 6. From the Crystal Silence intro to the Gran Turismo groove that kicks in later, it's a real impressive piece of work. Best bit is the wild 30 seconds at 1:45. Film showcases some crazy awesome synth manipulation all around, especially that synth at 2:51. Super catchy dance tune. Just Desserts is fascinating. It's such a confusing tune which makes it difficult to talk about, but I really liked it, especially the lower register piano stuff. Really curious about this game from hearing the track. The only track I wasn't too fond of was Afternoon Snooze. It's meandering is similar in style to Diamante's works, though not half as good. Better than the stuff from Aquaria I've heard, though, I'll give it that. Putting Options ~ Game Over on the just missed list was probably the hardest decision I've had to make in a while. Mr. Furniss has produces a hell of a lot of quality Genesis tunes, and even then I was more than pleased with this, though that just might be those arpeggios talking. I keep saying things like "keep up the good work" but god with weeks this good it bears repeating. Keep up the good work! There's nowhere I can't reach. |
