This week seemed standard enough.
There's an obvious point spread staring me in the face right from the start, and I knew it was gonna take something special for me to alter it. Who knows, the quality of past weeks have been stellar, we'll see. To be honest, I haven't heard much of anything Twinbee outside of Pop'n for the SNES, except Yahho!, which, while catchy, doesn't come close. World of the Mold could've been great if everything didn't happen so fast; blink and it's over. Not much else to say, really. There's a rock tune which is alright I guess, an orchestral arrangement with an insipid main theme, and a town theme that probably doesn't even play in a town, I don't know. This week seemed standard enough. Then I listened to the Savage track. There's a fine line between novelty and Jesus Christ What, and Level 2 clearly surpasses it. I couldn't believe it. How the hell is this in-game music? I needed to know. I quickly found this demonstration run, and during the first 8 minutes, my life changed forever. 2 points: Level 2 2 points: Ancient City -koto- (Kaede's STAGE) 1 point: Mission 27 - Me and my Little War 1 point: Volcano - Kamishimo X68000 mix - Level 2 gets 2 points simply by association with the stage 1 theme. (The entire soundtrack consists of only 4 tunes and they all kick ass. 3 of them are in the demonstration vid without sound effects, and the title theme can be found here. WARNING: After hearing these, you may never listen to another song ever again) (Also interesting enough, "Level 2" doesn't even play during a gameplay segment according to the video) Jam it back in, in the dark. |
