Would it be a smart move to pre-order FFXII directly from the main site?

Because having it shipped to my house on release date would be pretty fucking awesome.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I really hope that my GameCrazy will be open on Monday night to accomadate the fanboys. Thank God that Tuesday is my ONE day off, so I can play it all damn day.

I'm trying not to get too excited, though, because I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than see my excitement die down.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the game. I'm only about an hour and a half into it, but I already like the more mature way they are handling the characters. Not that it's 'darker', but that Vaan and Panelo seem a lot more fun to play with then expecting. They're not annoying at all, which I was expecting.

By the way, I'm really quite new about the whole getting people to make you a sig thing, but I'd really love to have a FFXII sig. I just never did do very well with the whole pic-editing thing.

Oh, I got the regular edition, but mine came with a poster (because I pre-ordered) and I got the "Ashe" poster. There is one for every character in the game. I'd love to get them all...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I just beat the Elder Wyrm yesterday with no real problems. That might be because I've been leveling up for the Ring Wyrm (a mark) that I think is supposed to be prettymuch impossible at this state of the game, but I made a crack at it.

Is it just me, or is money a damn near precious commodity. I've never felt more frustratingly behind in terms of technicks and equipment.

Well, I'm on my way to the Feywood now (after the Archades bit). I really haven't grinded, but I have a few qualms with the game:

I'm really, really pissed about the Zodiac Spear. I hate when they throw in stuff like this. The weapons should be difficult to get, not something that punishes you for actually going through an opening every chest. I was being meticulous, and I was punished for it. Not good at all.

Also, is it just me or is the game almost -too- open ended? I find myself often lost amid all of the choices of the liscense board, and my original idea of having defined-roles for every character has pretty much been obliterated. There are way too many weapon types and whatnot for me to really choose for 'set weapons' for all of the characters.

It's just horrible knowing that I am actually way behind where I'm supposed to be, because the game expects me to be taking ten hours off of the plot at a time to do extra stuff. I guess that is a pretty bad complaint, because I used to complain about not having enough side material in previous installments in this series, but now it just seems like a hassle, having to go defeat hunts. I mean, the amount of time it takes to get from one place to another, to talk to someone, to go somewhere else, have your ass handed to you, grind for hours, go back and barely accomplish the task, go all the way back to the petitioner and get weapons that are already outdated? Barely worth it, nearly.

I mean, what's the point.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Wait.

How can I get into Barheim Passage, again? I want to kill the Bloodwing or whatever he is.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Basically, if killed the Cactoid that Dantro wanted you to kill (with the flower on it's head), go to the village in the Estersand, north of the Barheim Passage. There, go to the house nearest the shore and talk to Dantro's wife to give her the flower. After that, the next item on the list is 3 shells that can be found glinting in the water near the shore (village or outside, it doesn't matter). Next, she'll ask you to go back to Dantro (at the Estersand outpost) and get the phial by examining the crates nearby. Head back and give it to her and she'll ask for a flower which you can get over in the Broken Sands map near the south entrance (it's a poking out of a crevasse with white flowers). Take this back to her and reenter the village 2 times and then go speak to her. After some chitchat, the healed hunter that she was caring for will give you the key to reenter Barheim.

But before you can do this, you have to give her the flower for Step 1, then go over to the shore and speak with the people in the crowd. This takes you on a short sidequest where all the work you'll be doing is going behind the house after you're told to find Dran. Examine the flower and head back to the ship to wrap this up. After this is done, you'll be able to do the rest of the errands she gives you.
Ah, I actually did a lot of this very early on in the game, but I didn't know where to go to find the Cactuar (Cactoid?) Dran. Thanks a lot for explaining the rest of it; I thought I had blown it because I kept hearing people scream about a Serpentskin, which I promptly sold.

Hachi, what level are you at? Bloodwing's all the way in the West Annex of the mines in the new area open now. Remember that split in the path with all the mimics around a rock formation in the middle and along the walls? Take the path to the left and just follow that. I asked your level because the enemies go from level 8-9 to 40-42 in an instant. Not just that, but somewhere on the Zaivha span map, Deadbones and Bogeys start to appear. Oftentimes they've got some combination of Protect, Haste and Shell on and an inclination towards mobbing you. Keep Libra refreshed as there are traps everywhere here, none of which I triggered since I had Float active.
I'm at around level 45 for my active party, and all have constant self-Haste, Protect, and Shell, so I'll be ok. They also have Archades armor (haven't gone back to Balfonheim or whatever it's called for the new armor) so I think I'll be ok on defeating them. Those Embroidered Tippets really help tremendously.
Quote:
And Bloodwing himself isn't too bad, but his Leech-spamming is a pain in the ass, especially given where he spawns. The West Annex has an elevated strip that has Bogey x 1, DeadBones x 2 teams spawning every few steps. Worse case scenario is you get tangled up in that while 'Wing's tearing you up.
As long as I can Mist Quickening him at the end, I should be fine, I wager.

The game is a lot more fun when you take the time to do all of the extra stuff; it makes the game flow a lot more smoothly, I've noticed.

These hunts are too easy; I must have waited to do a lot at once, because I'm kicking their asses.

I'm at about Level 50 now; what level, would you suggest, is a good one before I head into the Feywood?

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I leave for a week and you all talk about areas I haven't been to, yet.

Anyway, since finals are going to be over very soon, and I don't have (much) homework yet, I'm going to be popping in FFXII again either late tonight/early tomorrow, so I can get to Giruvegan already.

From when you are you supposed to enter the Feywood until the end, can anyone simply tell me how many hours or so left until I beat the game, assuming I ignore all else henceforth? I am trying to gauge whether or not I'm at the end or not, as I am having trouble figuring it out.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I just beat the game, as well.

I have to say, I loved it quite a bit. It was the first time in a long time I actually felt bad having to end it, though.

OK, so, gonna begin the game again, this time keeping in mind the Genji Armor/Zodiac Spear among others, but I have a quick question: is there anyway to know how to get all the ultimate weapons without a guide? I don't have a clue how to get the Tornesol, for example, without looking it up in a guide. If there is a way, I am willing to play through the game again without a guide just to see if I can do it myself, but if there is no way...

And, one other thing. I know that in the end you want to complete the board with every character, but what weapon types would you have down for each character?

In the game coming up, I have:
  • Vaan
    • Daggers
    • Ninja Swords
    • Crossbows
    • Light Armor
    Penelo
    • Staves
    • Measures
    • Rods
    • Mystic Armor
    Balthier
    • Guns
    • Hand Bombs
    • Poles
    • Light Armor
    Fran
    • Bows
    • Katanas
    • Maces
    • Mystic Armor
    Basch
    • Greatswords
    • Axes and Hammers
    • Heavy Armor
    Ashe
    • Swords
    • Spears
    • Heavy Armor

Does that look about right to anyone? The one I'm wondering about is Basch, who might not have any of said weapon type available right away.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Oncde you get to Archades, there's a merchant who sells Embroidered Tippets (?). if you have the $, buy 6 for all your characters and equip them immediately!!
It's absolutely worthless to have more than three, as people in your inactive party gain no experience.

Give them Golden Amulets, instead.

You can clear those Dark Bones and Spectres out, go and save, and come back and they won't respawn. That's what I did, and it was cake once I had Bloodwing. The only problem is that Bloodwing himself will be attacking as you're fighting off the Dark Bones, which is rather annoying.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Would you consider a 2H sword better than a 1H sword?

How, without the use of a guide, would I know how to create some of the best weapons in the game?

The bestiary. There are a ton of monsters whose secondary entry is hints and nods towards the materials you need to make certain weapons. It's both amusing and informative to read, as they often provide a ton of extra backstory for Ivalice.
Maybe I am not paying enough attention, but all it seems to nod to is what kind of item it (the enemy) drops. I don't imagine how I'd know how to make a Tournesol without the guide, but if you say it pushes you in the right direction...
