I have already looked up the topic of SATA on GFF without any solution to my problem. I just got an 80Gig SATA drive that I want to add to a current system. My mobo is an Intel D865GBF and has the latest BIOS version. I have also set my BIOS to Enhanced mode and have also formatted my drive both as extended and primary and neither method seemed to work.

I seem to be able to hold information and transfer information from the drive just fine, it's just when I thry to run games off of it where the games lock up and freeze, which I'm guessing is due to the transfer rate. I'm probably just missing something, but the more help I can get the better. I want to be sure that it's not a faulty drive before the warrenty is up.

Well for starters all the games run fine off of my primary IDE 150Gig drive. I can literally copy Halo from my F: drive (the SATA drive) after it freezing and paste it right onto my C: drive and the game will play fine. But I'll list my other hardware for you anyway.

Pentium 4 2.6 GHz
Radeon X800
1536mb Kingston DDR RAM

UPDATE
I just tested my SATA HD with HD Tach and the program came up with a read error in the sequential read test using 32bit packets, so I would assume that this means that the HD can't handle reading at the higher speeds. Am I correct? Or could it possibly be a compatability issue with my system?

P.S.
I have also tried using SATA 1 and the same issue occurs.

Well I took the HD back to where I got it and they gave me another one to try. Well I brought it home and after installing it, made sure to reinstall the driver to see if that was the problem. After that I formatted the drive and ran the HD test that I ran on the last one, which this one passed.

At this point I was of course excited that the drive was finally working and after installing Halo on it guess what, it froze. Well at least now I know that it's either my Mobo is incompatable with newer SATA drives or that my mobo's SATA connectors are defective. Oh well, no big deal. At least I can take it back and get an IDE drive (which I know will work).

Thank you Fjordor for your support in this matter, and I'll leave you as well as others with this one last question.

Does it matter if I have 2 HDDs on the same IDE cable or is it better to have them seperate? Because I have 2 disc drives on one IDE and my 150Gig drive on the other (which is where I'd put my new HD on aswell).
