HAY GUYS

I was playing KoF XI on my Sharp Aquos HDTV and after quitting the game I noticed I had a brand new vertical 1/4 inch red line spanning from top to bottom only a few inched left of the center of the screen.

Is there some sort of fix I can do to fix this. Or does it require me taking it back to the store and getting a new one?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Well I went and played the PS2 emulation thing again and that made it go away. So I don't know what the fuck that is. The red line comes up right on the left edge where the 4:3 image ends. It always flickered that red line on my CRT HDTV, but I never had it stuck.

Now I can't tell if it's just caused by the resolution changing of the PS2 hardware or if it's the TV.

Argh.... lame...

Either way, I suppose I can't take it back now seeing how the line isn't there. However if it ever comes up again I'm going to take it back. I may even try the PS2 emulation again just to make it happen.

UPDATE:
It came back while playing GH3 on my 360 so it's going back ASAP. Crappy part is, ASAP won't be till Friday

Today I researched the issue on the net and then called Sharp Canadian tech support (American support was useless) and it is a documented issue that can happen to any make or model of LCDs. It used to be like a 30% rate back when LCDs were first introduced, but since quality control has been established for LCDs the percentage is much lower.

Like I say, you can test anything a million times. Give it to me and it'll break. *sigh*

So yeah, taking it back and getting a new one tonight. I called ahead, and they have more in stock.

Like I said, it can happen to any make or model hence why I may have some laptop LCD reports of this matter. But it IS the same thing.

This isn't mine, but it is the same problem to give you an idea of what VB is. The lones run below light colours and above dark ones. Creating this laser with dust going through it effect when playing a moving picture.

I think the new one looks sharper then the last. But I wouldn't be surprised if I wasn't just seeing what I wanted to see.

To tell the truth mine wasn't exactly like that picture. It wasn't quite a solid line. I don't know if I can explaing this but my red bar consisted of 2 red lines really. One line was every even pixel and then there was a space of a pixel or two to the next red line that was every odd pixel.

Now I don't know if there specifics there are right exactly, but that's an idea of what it at least looked like. I can't say that it IS vertical banding exactly. But the properties seemed similar with the colour layering and such so I did just assume considering how close the two seemed. That's really all I could do.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I actually have already taken it back to the store last night and got the new one.

Thanks for the advice though. Nice to know there's people out there willing to help a guy out. ^^

Yeah, no problem man.

Well first off I got mine from Sears here in Ontario, Canada. First shadey thing I'd like to mention is that they have NO satisfaction guarentee. Notta. And if you want to return ANY electronic item whether a $40 discman or a $3,000 TV Sears gets to keep 20% of the purchase price. Doesn't matter if you're refunding or exchanging. Only exception is if it's a faulty product of course.

That said they do have a 1 year in store replacement service for most electronics which is always handy.

So my TV had a red line and I phoned Sears. I just got a random female worker in the Electronics department and she said that they needed me to call Sharp and report the problem that way the serial has a record so that Sears can send it back to Sharp, and while I did that she was gonna go see if they had more of my TV in stock. I phoned Sharp without too much hassel and afterwards the women phoned back saying that they did have more in stock and that she was going to hold one for me.

After that I took the broken one to the store's dock, unloaded the old one, showed my receipt, and loaded the new one.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

LMAO, that's awesome.

Yeah I tend to abuse their generosity myself too. But you can't say that their customers don't leave satisfied... eventually. And I know that THAT keeps me going back to Best Buy.

Only reason why I bought my LCD from sears was because it was the only card that had enough room on it to cover it at the time... and I can make monthly payments.
