You obviously haven't been paying attention to what's going on and have come in half way through something you don't understand or are too narrow-sighted to see the bigger picture.
Jan wanted to know if it would be alright to get a PS3 over a PC because they need a new PC for PC things, however they also want a PS3 to play the games coming out this year and all I said was that you can get a PS3 and load it with Linux which would allow you do do anything your standard PC can do besides play PC games however you would also be able to still play PS3 games also. So as you can see now, nowhere in there did anyone say that it was better or easier to do word processing on a PS3 over a PC, it was a matter of only being able to get a PC or a PS3 and we just pointed out that if they get a PS3 with Linux installed that they can do both. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I wouldn't base my opinion on just what you heard if I were you. However I would definatly look into it before making the leap for sure. If he wants to play games as well as casual use he might have to get a console+sub $400 PC, however like I said, further investigation on Jan's part is required before making any final decisions.
How ya doing, buddy? |
With the Linux installed you can play your custom soundtracks during gameplay.
And you can use a Wiimote as a pointer for your PS3 through Linux. Most amazing jew boots |
I've just heard from IGN and others that if someone has Linux installed on their PS3 that they can play their own music in the OS and then go play a PS3 game with their own music still playing via Linux, therefore custom soundtrack.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
It's just like using WinAMP while playing any sort of game. Except you can do it during PC games.
You can put any make or size laptop HDD into the PS3 you wish to put in it. And it can play a bunch of video types except for DivX which even Microsoft is having trouble getting a codec license for. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
SOLDIER: You're right, you have to turn off the original BGM otherwise they'll both play. And in order to have continuous play, just throw all your songs in a playlist and hit random repeat, that way it'll keep going as long as you're playing.
P.S. I can't remember who pointed it out around here but 1UP's interview with David Jaffe was pretty interesting to watch. There's definatly some loyalty to Sony there, however he is also a business person and it seems that he's looking at the PS3 with the whole 5 year scope instead of the narrowsighted 2 year scope it seems everyone seems to be looking at the PS3 through. It's nice to see a sane person about in the market these days. I was speaking idiomatically. |
That's a good question. Now for an answer, or at least half of one.
I don't know if you can access the external HDD via USB through the XMB, however I do know that you can use an external HDD via Linux installation. Hopefully someone can answer the other half for you man. Most amazing jew boots |
You can try it in FAT if you want however I don't think that it'll make any difference, nothing has used the old FAT format since the early Win98 days, so the odds of the PS3 supporting FAT in my opinion is far less. However if you can prove me wrong that would actually make me happy.
Most amazing jew boots |
That could be as far as the XMB is concerned, however with Linux installed there's opensource drivers that allow you to read & use NTFS drives.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
And that's through the XMB and not Linux right?
PROBLEM: All of a sudden I can't log into PLAYSTATION Online, I've reset and I still get this darn error #80710016, anyone else getting this? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
It's not online here, and you're right about flOw.
How ya doing, buddy? |
Namco produced for other companies since SoulCalibur 2 and Tales of Symphonia? Anyhow, at least that makes it pretty much a sure bet now that Tekken 6 and SoulCalibur 4 won't be jumping ship to the 360.
As for the new firmware update, BC=WhooHOO!!! Now if only MS could do the same for the 360 (want to play Unreal Championship 2 again). According to Joystiq (not very reliable I know) you're supposed to be able to use your own pics and audio clips for the system sounds now too, however there was something in there too about buying that support or something, I don't know. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
That's only because online doesn't work for fighting games. The lag is killer, where in other genres it's managable. Hell, Street Fighter 2 didn't even run well over X-box LIVE, nor Capcom VS SNK2, nor Guilty Gear X, DOA4. Namco and Sega know this and therefore don't want to waste development time on something that can't work with today's internet.

I'll believe it when I see it. Conventional news sources are some of the least reliable and biased kind of reporters of the gaming industry. I'll believe it when I hear it from an actual gaming news source. However thanks for the heads-up if things do decide to develope.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Most likely, it seems that Sony is trying to follow the trend of the PS2 in every way. From lack of systems, to sub par launch titles, to making the system hard to develope for. We'll have to wait and see if it works in the long run.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Elixir: People said the same things about the PS2 when it launched against the DC. So I wouldn't be so auick to start counting a TKO quite yet. The expansive chess game of the three players have only begun, and if you think that a company as large as Sony doesn't know what they're doing then you need to take a look at the bigger picture of what the PS3 is for the price, something that so few people are capable of doing. Secondly Sony is maintaining many of their developer relations and therefore the PS3 library is looking like it's going to be as large and as diverse as the PS2 one was. Sure developers are producing for multi-platform now, but they're not cutting the PS3 off and the same things happened between developers and the PS2 when it launched.
And as a reply to a statement you made in another thread, ZOE3 is already in the works and there has already been leaked screens featured in multiple magazines confirming the game. FELIPE NO |
Here's what I can find right now.
http://kotaku.com/gaming/konami/zone...n-3-204421.php http://www.gamespot.com/pages/unions...8&union_id=486 Double Post: If I play PS2 games that have 720P support on my PS3 set to 720P, will it activate the 720P support of the game automatically or do I have to engage it manually just as though I were playing it on a PS2? Secondly does any one know what the Cross Color Reduction Filter does exactly? What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
It must have been 480P that I was thinking of. Still, do I need to do it manually or does the PS3 automatically set it to 480P for me?
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Ummm... do you have a PS3? The firmware 1.5 basically fixed all of that and the upscaleing issue. I've compared games on the PS2 & 3 and other then it being a bit smoother on my PS3 due to the 480P and HDMI they praticalcy look the same now. The only thing I use my PS2 for is Guitar Hero anymore, however once the 360 version comes out I won't be using it for even that anymore.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Everything looks fine to me, then only things that look bad on the PS3 to me are the same things that look bad playing the game right on a PS2... so far at least.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Basically Sony is counting on the PS3 to be a Trojan Hourse for the Blu-Ray format. Hey it worked in Japan with DVD in the PS2 where it was only like 15% penetration before the PS2 came along, who's to say that it won't work this time too.
UPDATE: I just got back from playing RR7 with my Logitech PS2 Driving Force wheel and that game has some of the sweetest ForceFeedback effects that I've ever felt through that wheel since Burnout 3. It's going to take some time for me to get as good as I am with the controller, but man what a rush. Each type of road has a totally different feel to it and when you hit nitrous it feels like the wheel is going to fall apart in your hands at level 3. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Yeah the replays look freak'n insane, the MotorStorm demo is similar when the camera is pulled a bit of a ways back, it almost looks real. The dude in the car of GTHD is creepy realisitc too. Don't forget that in 5 years that everything we're seeing now will look like crap by then, and that's on the same system I'm talking too. That thought makes me excited & scared of what's to come, lol.
Tomorrow I'm try'n GTHD with my Steering Wheel... can't wait ^^ I was speaking idiomatically. |
hook her up to a computer, backup the data you want onto your PC's HDD, format the PS3 HDD and then put the files back onto the PS3 HDD. I know you can back-up saves for sure, anything else isn't as big of a deal I don't think. The demos I dought you can back-up, I don't know if I'd want to try.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
The PSN right now is a bit too slow for ideal use, however what I do when updating is download the update from the PlayStation site and then install it, it's much faster. As for size it's about 100MB, so it's pretty big.
As for games I'd check out RidgeRacer 7 (best since RR64), Full Auto 2, Fight Night 3, Genji, Call of Duty 3 all a fair rent. You might not like them all, but it's worth checking out seeing how not much is coming till towards the end of Feburary. FELIPE NO |
Um can you install windows on it? The drivers for external OS are all Unix code are they not?
