After my second last post I wasn't going anywhere with it and had come to a conclusion, lol, oh well. Don't worry about it Jazz I get it now. Thanks for the continued effort to explain it though ^^

UPDATE:
Just some things that I wanted to name off here that I don't think have been mentioned about the PS3's V1.80 update.

First is that you can now stream music, video, and pictures as long as you have a DLNA compliant piece of software. RYU has pointed out one method of achieving this, another way is by adding the PS3 to your Windows MediaPlayer 11 Media Sharing list.

Next thing is that BR-DVDs are now downscaled to 720P/720i/480p, basically whatever your display setting is set at instead of the old 1080p/i OR 480i ONLY option.

And lastly, one that I've been waiting for is that you can now use your PS2 memory cards to transfer data not only off, but now TO the cards. Meaning that we now have a use for them again to keep backups of our saves, or to transport our saves to our friends places and use them on their PS2 with our CURRENT files. No more having to carry my PS3 around to play my PS2 games just so that I have access to my saves. YAY!!!

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Is there a way to play DivX .avi files on my PS3 over the network feature? I think I've heard of other people doing this, but they wern't using the WMP media service to cennect their PC to their PS3. So what program do I need and how do I set this up?

your PS3 just has to be hooked up to the same router, whether it be wired or wireless as the PC you want to stream from. Unfortunately, unless you know how to do port forwarding and what not, router hopping can be complicated, so just keep the two things on one router.

as for the .avi thing, you should be able to watch them as long as they're not DivX encoded like most are nowadays. However with some research and a reference to a previous post for instructions, it seems that Nero MediaHome is the best way to accomplish this. While there could be other programs, a lot of the services out there (ie. Windows Media Player) don't have decoders for their server service, where MediaHome does have these decoders. So if you have Nero Ultra, just follow the following instructions (which were also posted earlier) and you should be able to watch almost any format on your PS3.

http://reviews.cnet.com/playstation-...-31880501.html

P.S.
I've heard that lossless WMA files also don't work on the PS3 with most services. This program could also possibly fix that issue too.

That's mostly because if you want to network and keep your internet connection, or unless you have two network cards, you need a router.

So you can get;
Laptop --> Router --> PS3 to work, but not
PC --> Router --> PS3

Well unless you didn't allow the PS3 on your WMP 11 on your PC but you did on the laptop, that would do it. Pretty much anything else wouldn't have even let you detect it, not a "cannot access" error.

Can anyone else think of what might be the problem?

Hmmm... the only thing that I can think of right now is that perhaps you can only have one connection per a server program established with your PS3. Therefore;

Computer A <---> PS3 (Because you allowed it)
Computer B <--- PS3 (It can see it, but you currently have it set up to work with Computer A)

This would make sense to me. Only thing is if you tried Computer B first (Desktop) then there was no existing link between A and the PS3 for the PS3 not to link to B. Make sense? lol

Anyhow that's probably not the case, but there's not enough information on this feature right now to know for sure. The only other things that I can think of that may be the issue is if you have a firewall on your desktop that's interrupting incoming inqueries from the PS3. OR under;

Media Sharing -> Settings -> "Allow new devices..." checked

UPDATE:
Alright, I did some looking around and I found some good possible fix walkthroughs. This may take you a bit to go through all of it (if need be) but it's a lot stuff that seem like possible fixes. Good luck.

http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...essage?board.i
d=ps3media&thread.id=47608

UPDATE UPDATE:
Found a quote in another walkthrough which sounds like what I was saying earlier;

"If you don't see the device, the chances are that a)you have a firewall blocking WMP11 media sharing b) there is some port conflicts between ps3 and your home network. Disable firewall to check if its a), or restart your PS3 (or disable and enable back media sharing in XMB under Network Settings). After each reboot PS3 will use different set of ports for media sharing, so eventually you should be able to get PC and PS3 see each other. The same also applies to a similar problem with other software."

CURRENT STATUS:
Alright I installed the new version of TVersity 0.9.10.3b which does not require the TVersity PS3 patch. After installing this, selecting PlayStation 3 as the end user and selecting the files I want to share the program crunchs the data, creating a database. After this it is hosted on the network for all PCs, Consoles, Laptops and everything else to see. Unlike WMP 11, there is no validification required to establish a connection. You just can't have TVersity's out-port blocked by a firewall and pretty much anything should be able to access this. TVersity in conjunction with ffdshow also allows you to ciew almost any common filetype on your PS3. Including Xvid.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Well for your WMP11 issue, are you sharing the correct files that has you media in them?

As for TVersity, it's a good program, but if you try to share too much on the server then the program begins to bog down and what not.

My solution has been to use TVersity for videos and WMP11 for music and pictures.

How ya doing, buddy?

I know that this is probably nothing new for you guys but I have to say it.

After watching the new Stranglehold LE trailer and I heard that the LE disc will contain both the game and Hard Boiled on the BR-DVD I was just like, "F*** YEAH! Blue Ray ROCKS!", Honestly though to get a next-gen game and a full and possibly even 1080P movie on one disc is simply unbelievable. MAn... can't wait. ^^

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Pfft... wheels are over rated. lol

Good to hear though. Seeing how you're in Germany guess that means you have a PAL PS3? If that is the case, it's nice to hear that Sony gave the same committment to Europe like they did for the U.S. about backwards compatability.

To me at least, the must own games of the PS3 this summer are;

Heavenly Sword

LAIR

Ninja Gaiden Sigma (for thoes who haven't played it or are huge fans of the series)

Possibly TUROK, but no one has had a hands-on with it yet.

@Musharraf
I don't think they really want to fill up the PSN right now because they're working on a whole new PSN interface to be launched some time after E3. However if this trend continues after the new PSN, by all means go rip them a new one.

Nope, that's Ryu's normal training costume and is the same costume he wore in Ninja Gaidens 1 - 3 on the NES/SNES. Then after you go through the village you get his new costume.

And yes I did pick the game up and it's bloody amazing. Though it is a LOT more goreyer then it's ever been before. Doesn't bother me but be prepaired to get your clothes stained.

I've seen a couple horizontal tears in the images but they're like quick things that happens once in a blue moon so it's all good.

As for the Demo related content I was sure that you got extra gold and stuff for when you played the full version. Hmmm... I'm gonna look into this.

"If you're considering getting the full version of the game later this month when it comes out on retail, all of your time spent on the demo will be rewarded. Team Ninja and Tecmo have announced that the full version of the game will be able to feed off of your playtime on the demo. The more you play the demo, the more Yellow Essence you get when you start the game." -QJ.net

You need the disc to Authenticate the game. Without that the game doesn't boot. Ridge Racer 7 works the same way. As does Obilion and Virtua Fighter 5.

Yeah it would make sense, along with the additions of PS3 exclusive game trailers that we'd espect to be on the PSN already.

Of course all of this is Sony's answer to MS's E3 at home thing.

[DOUBLE POST]
My god man. Sony may have screwed up on their retail launch window games, however the same can NOT be said for their original PSN titles. This is one thing that Sony has done WAY more then anyone esle in.

Anyhow without delay. Out with Stardust HD and in with Nucleus. That's right. A top down shooter game ala GeometryWars or Super Stardust HD, EXCEPT it's all bio creatures and you use your surroundings to create barriers and other tactical advantages. Looks pretty sweet.

First off this is just an E3 time deal, nothing permanent. 07/15 - 07/21

However something is better then nothing, and thoes who wanted it to just be $100 cheaer now have their chance.

I wish I wasn't saying what I'm about to, however it is the truth.

Your link there just sais that the price cut is NOT limited to Circuit City. It doesn't disprove that it IS for a limited time.

Also, look below;

This could all change, however as it stands now this is the case until Sony elaborates on the pricing plans or if the price change remains after the final day.

Alright then. I just wanted to poke at any holes in it because I know if I took that information and told someone else that they'd try to point out the same flaws so thanks for the concrete explanation. ^^

Sometimes it's good to be wrong... this is one of them. (Though I already spent $650CAD for mine, oh well VF5 was worth it)

Well at the store that I work when people ask me what system they should buy or what system has the most games. I just tell them, buy the system that has the First-party games you're interested in or long time series that will stay true. Thoes are the only things that anyone can count on. Third-party stuff especially this gen are all 90% cross platform so that's not really a factor like it was.

So basically it comes down to;

MS: HALO, Fable, Forza, Gears of War, X-box LIVE
Nintendo: Metroid, Mario, Party games
Sony: MGS, Final Fantasy, Jack, Ratchet, Tactical RPGs, Gran Turismo and consistant original first-party titles. original

As for Katamari, after the last two games I've had my fill. I have a 360 and a PS3 therefore what system it came to wouldn't have mattered, I'd still felt the same.

Lastly I agree with Musharaf's point. The PS2 was a 200% price hike from earlier consoles therefore being more expensive then the market was used to where the PS3 was only a 150% increase from last gen.

Also while DVD when the PS2 came out was not HD DVD, the market penetration was low especially in China, Japan, and parts of Europe, therefore took time for the realization of the technology to come to terms with the public, however the PS2 massively helped home penetration.

While the penetration of Blu-Ray will NOT be as fast as DVD, seeing how almost nowhere now sells SD TVs, the market for HD technology can only grow. Therefore it's only a matter of time.

@Kairi
Sony is in the industry for $$ not to be popular like any other company. (However they're still not as big of ass like some larger companies) However market examiners are already questioning how long it'll be before all 360 games will be multi-disc due to DVD space limitations. Most people say by the end of this year that most 360 games from then on will be multi-disc. Heck, LAIR coming soon is 22Gigs of information which is about 3 DVDs of information. So while it may be hard to see now, Sony's move with the Blu-Ray was very forward thinking which is what they due well.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I think that people cry too much. They'll pay $2,500 for a new PC to play 10 games but not $600 for something that's more powerful then that PC, well run ALL games efficiently, and the person will probably play 50+ games in it's life span.

People need to get in check-in with reality and stop demanding things that are already too good, nevermind being better.

Hell I know that this won't change any time soon, doesn't make my opinion wrong though. Hell multiple companies and market examiners have said the same thing.

@Jag
You're totally right. And that's why in my last post I believed that BR&PS3 will take longer to take off then DVD&PS2 did for that exact reason ^^

There's nowhere I can't reach.

@russ
Well the PS here was $300 (you were right) and the PS2 was $600 (retail wide markup) so it WAS 200% here. I have the receipts from FutureShop and WalMart to prove it. And don't say "oh well that's not what it was supposed to be" or something because frankly I don't care. I just care what I paid.

@Aardark
What I said earlier was like a, "In a perfect world" type of thing. However even in that post I acknoledged that it will probably never happen.

@Ultima
I was thinking of getting that before but is it an AC adapter or USB? Hopefully USB because I don't have any more AC plugs due to my 2 TVs, Surround Sound and 20 systems.
