I blame Coincidence. I've installed OO on over 70 machines (including at least 8 laptops), Windows and Linux, and never had that issue.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

That Model is flaky as hell (I have one too). It goes in and out on me. The fact that it "coincided" with OO was nothing more than a coincidence.
