It is wholely possible that when you selected to delete viruses that it deleted an important file that actually makes things work.
Try this: Right after your PC boots up, hit ctrl+alt+delete and tell us all what you see in the processes tab. Additionally, try File->New Task->explorer.exe. Jam it back in, in the dark.
