I remember watching The Way of the Gun for the first time with my old roommates and a few of their friends. During the first act, it wasn't so bad - a couple of people were taking, some people were coming in and out of the apartment, but I was sitting next to the t.v., paying attention. After the second act, I paused the movie to use the restroom. When I turned around, I realized that none of the people I started watching the movie with were in the room, and the people that were there were announcing a run to taco bell, and did I maybe want to come?
So I started the third act alone, but I did notice that everyone seemed to come back just in time for the finale, and everybody wanted to know what was going on.
"Who is he?"
"He's Sarno."
"Who's Sarno?"
"He's some dude... hey, want to get me a drink? Thanks."
"Wait, isn't that Mexican guy like... he's that baby's father right? And he has a million dollars?"
"What? No. Shut up."
Oh, man. During the scene after the showdown, where Sarno is being informed that the baby belongs to Robin and the doctor, I can't begin to tell you how hard I had to fight to ignore all of the questions and just fucking listen to the movie.
I was lucky enough to be able to zone everyone out for about 90% of the movie, but Jesus... I enjoyed it a lot more the second time I viewed it. And the third and fourth, and so on.
That was actually the movie that made me start refusing to watch certain flicks for the first time with certain friends.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
