That's an interesting question. I think it only works with the VC or Wii games specifically designed for it, though (hard to call the Gamecube "classic").
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Hoo hoo hoo, about 13 days now. I wasn't able to preorder, so now I have to come up with a battle plan and probably camp out at a Best Buy or some shit. I'm not sure why I'm so excited. Red Steel doesn't interest me, I don't like racing games, and I'm adamant about purchasing Zelda for the Gamecube (provided it isn't available exclusively online, like in Japan).
It might be that it's a new console, or maybe I am really drawn to the motion-sensing stuff. Either way, I'll probably be playing Wii Sports for a while. If I can even get a hold of one, anyway. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I think that sort of thing would depend on the store, if that particular store chain even has ticketing. As I recall, a few Wal-Marts at the 360's launch had a Battle Royale-style numbering system (as in, whoever beat the shit out of the people in front of them got first dibs).
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Red Steel has been riding the "first shown Wii title" hype that I'm a little surprised has lasted up until now. I think a lot of people said the game looked pretty bad back at E3, so one can only wonder how much they improved on it.

I barely have enough for the Wii itself, though I'll be trading in a couple of things to see if I can't come up with 50 for a game. I'm thinking maybe Call of Duty 3 just to be different, but I've been hearing a lot more people say that the control scheme for Zelda isn't that bad. Or maybe I'll just buy an extra controller or something.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I was (and still technically am) planning on buying it, but for the Gamecube. I've been very leery of it due to my greater trust in button schemes than my own, shaky hands.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Shipments this close to the Holiday shopping season will probably come at least once every two weeks.

I tried it. Works fine with Boxing and Baseball, at the very least.

I'd be more than happy to talk about the console considering I spent far too long in the cold to stay quiet about it, but what are you interested in hearing about?
The interface is ridiculously simple, which is good from a non-gamer's perspective, but sort of saddening for technophiles. Still, you'll find a lot of the same, basic features in the 360 and PS3 interface...s. System updating and announcements, online shop, that sort of thing. The really strange thing to me is the lack of a logo opening. Does the Wii even have one, guys? I don't see shit when I boot up the console or play Wii Sports. The system browser is just the Wii Channels and System Settings. From the start, you have the Disc Channel (the game you have in the console, essentially), the Mii Channel, Photo Channel, and Shop Channel. Weather and News Channels are sitting on the front page, but the system update to grant access doesn't exist yet. There's a shitload of blank slots which, I'm assuming, are for future Channels. System settings doesn't have much to it. Just personal settings you entered when you first start the console up, the option to reset them, and data storage settings. You've got the internal memory and SD slot for that. That makes me wonder what the USB slots are for, though. Nothing in the browser really gives an indication of what it does. Oh, and what the hell is this Wii Bulletin Board system the console keeps referencing to? Jam it back in, in the dark.

Target has a similar deal, except it's a $20 gift card.

Not sure about one, but I know two and three well enough.
2. Compatability seems fine. No noticeable difference in resolution from where I'm standing. 3. Yeah, a sensor. There's a section for the sensor bar in the Settings menu, which lets you configure it for either being placed on top of the TV or directly below it (which is essential, since a lot of flat-screens don't have the depth to keep the sensor bar on the top). I've tested this myself and the difference is relatively minor, so you might even be able to get away to sticking it onto one of the sides. 4. I guess it's possible, but everyone always has a favorite that they root for in the back of their head. So, yes and no would be the fair answer. Most amazing jew boots |
Yeah, it's sort of strange. I tried it with Wii Sports, and my computer says it's a DVD, but it's been unable to show any of its contents. It eventually gave me a blank folder and started calling my DVD burner a CD drive.

Oh, Turbo, did you try to do the system update through the Weather or News Channels? If you do it through that instead of first through the internet connections menu, you'll get stuck there for a long-ass while until it just says the service is not in use.

A tidbit for everyone who's a My Nintendo member, registering your Wii on the site extends your warranty period an extra 90 days. I'm not particularly worried about it suddenly dying on me, but hey, better safe than sorry.
How ya doing, buddy? |
You know, it doesn't even bother me so much when I only have an EDTV and the games aren't all that fancy looking, but I could use them just to free up my composite jacks for my PS2.
FELIPE NO |
Yeah, noticed they got the TurboGrafx section up. Maybe I can start hoping that the 27th will be the beginning of weekly updates.

I really don't think busting out progressive scan on an old Dreamcast port is such a good idea.

Doesn't mean it actually looks good. I didn't say anything about it not supporting progressive.

Nintendo learned its lesson, but a lot of companies cautiously supported it in the months before. Everyone seems to be on board fine now (EA opening a studio specifically for Wii titles seems to exemplify this), but that means the next four or five months will be rough.
Could be wrong, though. The Wii did get Elebits and Metal Slug Anthology (yes, I know the latter is multi-platform) in less than a month. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
There were five fucking thousand of them at Gamestop and EB when I went looking for Castlevania today. Tritoch offers sagacious advice.

Ah, so I had my first encounter right now with an update for a Virtual Console game. Specifically, Military Madness. Fairly simple, and I got a new "Mario and Luigi swimming" download progress screen that I hadn't seen before.
If any of you have Military Madness (which you should), I would recommend downloading the update. It fixes the slowdown that happens when you scroll across maps. I was speaking idiomatically. |
