[Multiplatform] Official Final Fantasy XIII Thread

All those screens that were posted a few pages back have been pulled down by ImageShack. To those who posted them -- could you like, YSI them in a .rar or something? I'd really like to see the ones posted. There are three available at GameSpot, but there appears to be more than those available in this thread.

After looking at all those scanes (thank you for those), I'm almost convinced her name has something to do with Lightning. I know, I know, I hate to bring it up as I stayed out of the debate last time, but damn.

Every. Single. Image. from a battle has Lightning down there. It's clearly not a spell, since "Firaga" is in there. Only other thing I can come up with is that "Lightning" is a particular combat stance or active element such as one imbued on a weapon. Who knows, I suppose.

SInce Fire and Thunder are grouped together like that, along with Blizzard, I would safely assume those to be spell names and nothing more. The "Lightning" is out of place, so it's definitely something other than a simple spell.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If we're gonna talk about character development systems, I'd love to see one something akin to the following:

Each individual character has certain specific traits (higher magic ability, higher strength, etc.)

All characters are equally able to choose a class (knight, thief, mage, etc.)

Each character will develop into a secondary, upper-tier class that is more specific based on both what job they choose and what their innate talents are (higher intelligence as a trait + knight as a job = something like a paladin or a dragoon, perhaps.)

If it's been done before, cool. I couldn't tell ya where, but I like that sort of balance whilst maintaining some individuality. I think that's something that would be possible on the next-gen systems -- namely, the PS3. With the possible inclusion of downloadable content (new classes, weapons, skills) and the extra storage of both the Blu-Ray disc and the hard drive, I'd say the PS3 is a great machine for exploring those sorts of branching opportunities.

Still more excited about FFXIII over Versus XIII. Versus XIII makes me wanna rhythmically cut myself to Linkin Park when I watch the trailer, but FFXIII has me really excited. Definitely a great trailer to check out. On GameTrailers.

I saw the artwork, but since I a.) couldn't read anything in the article and b.) nothing was posted here, I couldn't make anything out of it. We're just seeing some new characters then, I take it?

Well, the first image looks like the emo kid from Versus XIII, and the second-to-bottom picture's the guy who summoned Shiva in the XIII trailer. So really, the only new guy is in photo #2.

And they're right. I'd recognize that theme anywhere, and it is "Makubex" from Get Backers. It'd be a cool FF theme though.

Will Square-Enix be doing that? Lord knows they have enough in-house talent to do so. Though, I can't help but feel a little disheartened that, despite their being any previous proof to the contrary, FFXIII will come up a little short of set expectations, as it now has to be one multiple discs and from previous game releases, we can bet Microsoft won't allow FFXIII to require a hard drive for installation purposes.

Expectations have been lowered, but enthusiasm still remains high.
