I'd go with Ghost in the Shell. deepdiscountdvd.com has them all for I think around $13.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Here's one regarding Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu!

I've been trying to figure something out -- TV.com and THEM Anime Reviews both say that FMP: Fumoffu is a 15-episode series, but ADV Films has it listed as only 12 episodes. What's going on? How many episodes is the actual series in length?

Normally I'd believe ADV, but TV.com even has the titles for these mysterious last three episodes.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Ohh okay. So it's actually 12 episodes long, just that some of them are split into two 15-minute segments. Thanks!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Allright then. I every-so-often visit THEM Anime Reviews to see what's good and to read their stuff. One of the reviews was for Fate/stay Night.

So I read the review and it sounded pretty decent for something based on a hentai RPG. At the top, it says that Geneon licensed it. Good stuff.

Well I can't find any information about an English release but then I have to ask, is the anime hentai or maybe just a tad ecchi? Also, if anyone has any info about a US release, it'd be appreciated (provided the anime series isn't hentai).

The premise of it, though, sounds really cool.

From what I read, it's a hentai/dating RPG. What the difference is between that and a normal hentai/dating game is I have no idea.

Since Shingetsutan Tsukihime was brought up, for those that have watched it is it any good? Worth buying the boxset?

Arright, I searched on all the websites whose reviews I trust, and none of them seem to have any reviews on Peace Maker Kurogane, done by ADV Films. My question is this -- is it another big boob fanservice series, or is there something actually good here?

And I can confirm it for you. I bought the special edition of the 7th volume, and it does indeed hold all the DVD cases in the one tin. However, if you've ordered any other special editions previous to this one, those cardboard boxes will have to go somewhere else.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Allright so...on to Fate/Stay Night. I'm trying to get my hands on the Japanese boxset because I just really, really wanna watch it. Are there good/trustworthy websites with Japanese anime DVDs?

And I disagree. To a large extent, RahXephon did what Evangelion fans may have actually wanted, without going through two less-than-great endings to get there.

RahXephon has great animation and excellent voice-acting. The story does follow an Eva-ish pattern, although different in key aspects. The characters and story are also both quite compelling -- it's definitely worth checking out.

We obviously have different tastes, however you seem to completely hate RahXephon whereas I like both series fairly equally. I'd recommend that you continue watching it, since episode 13 is only halfway through the series -- of course, being an Evangelion fan you should know that the halfway mark means literally nothing in a 26-episode long series.

RahXephon and Evangelion are both quite good, so if you ever do get a free moment - and you feel like giving Rah another chance - I'd recommend picking it back up. If not, then have fun watching the umpteenth re-release special limited edition Director's Cut volume 245 of Evangelion. XD

How ya doing, buddy?

OH GOD YES.

Ahem. Well, I found a scanslation of Houshin Engi a couple years ago and had it on my hard drive. Read it all, enjoyed it thoroughly (the anime's good as well, but not nearly as deep as the manga), and my drive failed. Come to think of it, my very first ava/sig combo (the only one i've ever gotten in trouble for having it too large as well) was from Houshin Engi. It had Taikoubou wielding his Daishinben....I think that's what it was called anyway.

Anybody watched Shura no Toki? Any good? Thought about nabbing the boxset.

Edit: For rememberence.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I believe it was published in Shonen Jump! for a while, but it's not quite the same as DBZ. Actually it's loosely based in Chinese mythology around the downfall of the Zhou Dynasty -- emperor losing his mind to an enchanting demon whose only desire was luxury and destruction.

The characters are far more likable and memorable than other Shonen Jump runs though. Several of them have a lot of depth and backstory, and it's unique how some of the more interesting plot points get resolved.

I'd really like to see Houshin Engi get licensed and published in America. If One Piece, Naruto, and DBZ all get the treatment, Houshin Engi more than deserves it.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

If you haven't seen Karas: The Prophecy yet, it's a great OVA (well, 1 hour and 15 minute long movie) with the second half coming out in the spring of next year. Features superb animation, great action sequences, and a really compelling story with lots of cool plot devices.

Hm...what about X TV? Sure, the movie, X/1999, kinda sucked, but the series is fantastic. The animation is very, very sharp and clear. Lots of philosophical end-of-the-world hoohah, but it's pretty well done. Of the two factions the series has, Dragons of Earth and Dragons of Heaven, neither is characteristically good or evil, something not too often used.

The Guyver series is getting a re-release in the U.S. as well. The first DVD came out earlier this month, and although I haven't checked out yet I definitely will -- this sort of remake is, for me, has been long overdue. The original Guyver anime was cut off after 12 episodes and, being old as it was, was kinda choppy and the dubbing was awkward at best. I'm very anxious to get the first of the new DVDs.

There's also RahXephon to consider, though chances are you've seen it. If you haven't, and you liked Evangelion, you'll at least find RahXephon intriguing. The main character's not quite as angsty as Shinji is, or at least he gets over it far sooner than Shinji. Animation's good, music's good, characters're good, and the story's the best thing.

Samurai 7's a cool take on Akira Kurosawa's original novel. It's set in the future, but bushido is alive and well. After a big war, some samurai became bandits and turned their bodies into machines (effectively dubbing them "machine-samurai") while others simply vaunted around looking for work. It's a cool story though, again with very smooth and great animation. Lots of cool characters and the story's pretty good too, if not a little sad. Very interesting plot point regarding the relationship between a trio of characters though.

Not sure how well this fits in to your list, but Gungrave is pretty solid too. It's a good coming-of-age tale of a group of guys (they're actually a gang, but the series focuses on their friendship rather than their actually gang activity to enough of a degree where calling them a "gang" might misrepresent them) who want to join the ranks of Millenion, the most powerful crime organization in their city. The only bad thing about this is that for the entire middle portion of the series, the story is, for most aspects, believable. Like it could actually happen. But the beginning and toward the end, they bring the "anime" back into the story by introducing these zombie-fied gangsters and super-powered mob bosses. It kinda throws you off after being sucked into such a dramatic, quite-possibly-true-in-reality tale.

I'll throw in Zone of the Enders for the last of my recommendations. It's really funny and not quite so serious, but it's got fun characters and good story about family bonding and what-not. Lots of big robot fights. Better ones toward the end--Dolores, the robot, is kinda bad at fighting for a little bit. Makes for fun times though.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
