Solid enough for an FF7 remake? One would think, at least.
Hopefuly, SE will realize that 2.4 million people are the ones who bought the movie, but I imagine closer to 3 million have seen it -- these are the people who did not buy the movie, but rather downloaded it, saw a friend's copy, or are waiting to buy it either used or simply at a cheaper price. Maybe knowing that will spur them on to making the ever-hoped for remake. Maybe. There's nowhere I can't reach. I just watched the trailer, and yeah the game definitely looks playable. I was really only perturbed with one thing I heard...
In all the times I've played Final Fantasy 7, I always pronounced mako as "may-koh." Vincent says "mah-koh" when he speaks about the mako cannon being ready. :/ This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. Not necessarily. I agree with Soldier, as lately EGM's been unusually harsh on other games as well. Don't ask me for specifics, I just remember reading one at work and seeing several good games get very awkward scores; awkward or just plain low.

If anyone's interested in some more info and a pre-release review of Dirge of Cerberus, here it is -- http://ps2.ign.com/articles/724/724990p2.html

I'm glad that the story doesn't take over throughout the whole game. I like story and all, but unless you're a 40+ hour RPG a la Xenosaga, cutscenes and dialogue should be kept to what's necessary, especially in an action game such as Dirge.
But nonetheless, since I don't mind a good bit of story, the game should be fine for me, and I imagine fine for anyone who enjoyed FF7. Any naysayers won't find anything impressive here though beyond the production values. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? Of course, with you people torrenting the game (i.e. not buying it), I'm sure this'll encourage SE to remake FF7. >_>;
Anyway, I'll be getting my copy of Dirge tomorrow, as I've got it preordered. Just to have swing by the store to get it. I'm surprised that it's still getting word-associated with "broken," to be honest. I figured with the fixed camera, double jump inclusion, and changes to melee combat, it would begin to take on roles closer to Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 3 (not that particularly enjoyed either of those games, but many seem to).
However, for the sake of fanboyism/wanting an FF7 remake and believing that purchasing this game will get me one step closer to that end, I'll still buy it. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? Point taken. However, it's the difference between a $25 movie and a $50 game. If sales of DoC suck ass (due in part to downloaders), you think SE will really even bother releasing Crisis Core?
And come on, you know that Before Crisis will never make it here. Ever. We've seen the same thing happen with Xenosaga. Namco Bandai's likely not going to release Xenosaga I&II for the DS in the states, and the other Xenosaga stuff will stay in Japan as well. And I don't think Namco Bandai's got near the same funds as Square-Enix, so yeah. SE doesn't have to do anything unless it's profitable. And unless people buy their stuff, it won't be profitable. :/ Jam it back in, in the dark. Anywho, I have the game pre-ordered as well and picked it up today. I'm enjoying it so far, but it is a pretty generic shooter -- kinda like a third-person Black. I've found that I enjoy running around in first-person slightly more, and melee attacks thus far are pretty weak. You end up wasting a good portion of your health just to get close enough. Point in hand, short-range weapons (i.e. the red targetting reticle doesn't appear until fairly up-close) are useless as well, as you save only a slight bit more health compared to running up and going melee. Thus far, the stratgey's been to use the long range barrell minus the sniper scope, as it zooms in too far too quickly, and the draw distances don't really allow for sniping, since the enemies don't actually appear on-screen until you can target them with the long range barrell. :/ However, all of this negativity toward Dirge of Cerberus doesn't mean I regret buying the game -- FF7 fans will get a kick out of it, since it does have cool cutscenes and having a new plot to work through is entertaining to say the least. Graphically, this game's also very impressive, both in-game and cutscenes. SE must've spent a lot of money on the animation and CG teams. Just wish they would've spent a bit more in the gameplay department. Long story short, don't expect Dirge of Cerberus to do for third-person shooters what Final Fantasy 7 did for RPGs. If that's what you're expecting, might as well not buy the game. But if you're looking for a decent third-person shooter, it's not so bad. There's nowhere I can't reach. I'll have to disagree -- now that I'm further along into it, I'm having a lot more fun. There are more enemies, and the emphasis of looking around corners has been heightened severely compared to the first few hours.
I just completed running through and protecting the WRO headquarters. The only detraction I really have with the game at this point deals with the difficulty. It's not necessarily challenging per se`, rather, the lack of being able to carry any significant amount of useful items is bothersome. Having to rely solely on one Phoenix Down or two Hi-Potions is a little absurd. Granted, I suppose that's all Vincent can actually carry on him, but still. Outside of that, I'm having fun. Actually had a little trouble putting it down tonight, heh. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. If you're only two hours in and you've rated it as such, I think you'll up your score a tad after playing a bit further. It wasn't until after the WRO Headquarters battle that I really got into it.

Not to mention just how awkward it feel having an optional character from the original title finish the series off. :/ No offense to Vincent, as he is the third most-popular character. Hopefully they'll end things with that SURPRISE REMAKE LOL but probably not.

Crisis Core's gonna be playable this Friday in Japan. IGN's got a brief, but not link-worthy article under their PSP section.

Since this thread's been revived...
Anyone heard any news regarding Crisis Core? I haven't heard of an update on the American release or anything regarding the game for a while now. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. So I checked the pre-order list for the PSP today and saw "Final Fantasy" listed. Dunno if it's Crisis Core or if it's that Tactics re-release I've heard about, but I'll try and keep you guys posted as to what it is if it changes.
