Regardless of the shovel, this game's gonna rock. I'm glad to see the Wild Arms series continuing on the upswing, instead of taking Suikoden's downward spiral. I'm still playing 4 right now, but I'll be done with this one long before the Fifth Vanguard gets here.
Plus, while I can't see X-Seed refusing to pick this up, does anyone know the sales figures of Wild Arms 4? I...can't say I've heard of anyone in my area even playing it, much less knowing what it is. Jam it back in, in the dark. I guess I've got a bit of a grudge against the Suikoden games, had one since 3 came out. I've heard that 5 is getting back on track to being a good game, but that it's ultimately still average and still lacking compared to Suikoden 2. I'll wait until one gets up to Suikoden 2's level.
Alter Code F, though, was kinda boring. They really could've done so much more with regards to remaking the first game, but I think they just stopped a little too short. Wild Arms 4 though is awesome -- I'm disappointed in myself for having owned it from January 16th and not even opening it until a couple weeks ago. Since 4's only $20 now, I'd highly recommend you grab a copy, Gech. There's nowhere I can't reach. Goldfish, do you have the WA4 soundtrack (or for that matter, anyone) that you could upload to YSI, perhaps? I seem to be missing mine...
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. Most notably, in the last paragraph the 5th game's writer says that he'd enjoy doing a Wild Arms 2 remake, time permitting. Actually, I'd love to see a remake of the second one -- the translations errors and often unpronounceable words in the second game made it a tad difficult to follow the story at times, however the second oen remains my favorite of the series so I'd really like to see it come back. How ya doing, buddy? I love every game in the series equally -- save maybe for Alter Code F -- but Wild Arms 2 just kinda struck a chord with me I guess. I really preferred it's battle system and multiple character setup to Wild Arms 1 (and ACF). I also liked that the main character was not the only wielder of an ARM, as Brad was too.
I also liked the deeper in-game mythology, and transforming in Lord Blazer was awesome. I was speaking idiomatically. I was gonna pass on this game (which is truly a shame -- I've purchased every game in the series thus far), but the awesome stuff the actual games comes with warrants a purchase. I think it comes with an artbook covering the whole series.
I really wish the series would return to something like Wild Arms 3, cel-shaded and back to that battle system. The HEX system is a little unnerving and they just haven't been able to pull off a really nice 3D look -- everything seems exceptionally blocky. They'd be able to convey so much more if the developers went back and did some cel-shading instead. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
