I've got at least a dozen copies of Me and my Katamari at my store, and the PSP can be purchased preowned for $180 bucks -- $70 underneath their original price.
Granted, it's only one reviewer. It's not like I'd listen to him and only him. But I've never played Advance Wars, so if I try Field Commander than his review is likely to be more accurate for me than it would for someone who has played it before. Anyway, regardless of whoever says what, I still plan on trying it. There's nowhere I can't reach. You can, but the first one I'd get would be Maverick Hunter X. It's just so awesome -- the voice acting is great, the graphics are beautiful, playing as Vile is awesome, and it's just an extremely solid game. Second, go for Powered Up! and lastly, get the Capcom Collection.

If you buy the $200 set up, you can get a 32 MB card from EB Games or GameStop for only $10. So ultimately you're still saving a good chunk.
Actually though, if you're not gonna pay $250 for the system, get a refurbished/preplayed one. They're $180 ($190 w/ card) so you end up saving $60 off the value pack. I'm gonna check it out from work and see if it's worth a buy, and if it is then hell yeah. But I wanna try it first. It does look good though, especially for Tekken fans.
Namco, when're you gonna bring Soul Calibur to the PSP? ; ; I was speaking idiomatically. I've got Blade Dancer pre-ordered and yeah, I am looking forward to it. The art looks cool and it reminds me of Kingdom of Paradise (which I thoroughly enjoyed). If you haven't played it yet, try playing Field Commander. Fantastic game, more than comparable to Advance Wars (according to the reviewers, at least). Also, my boss said that Astonishia Story looks really good, which I might go check out. The Ys: Ark of Napishtim for the PS2 doesn't look quite as good as it does on the PSP, but for good reason -- the PS2 Ys uses 3D models, whereas the PSP version goes back to sprites, and they look much better. I really like the Ys game. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? Ignore Kingdom of Paradise's ungodly bad cover art (its got a reversible cover) and play the game. Graphically, it looks fantastic. The attack animations are smooth and the lighting effects are nice, especially when you're using Chi Arts. The voice acting is also surprisingly solid -- no real VA blunders are present. Some of the voices might get on your nerves, but the characters they're associated with would do the same with the mute button on. I wish more people would play KoP. It really deserves a sequel, and it's got a fantastic story that would lend itself to another game quite easily. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? I went and looked up Spectral Souls just to see what it was about. It doesn't come out until October in the US, but more importantly, it's an Idea Factory game.
I.F. is the same company who did Generation of Chaos and ported it to the PSP. So the answer to Spectral Souls is most likely a good, solid, en-oh no. GoC left such a bad impression on me that I came damn near close to banning Idea Factory from my checking account for life. Jam it back in, in the dark. I'm still very leery of anything brought over by IF. I'll check it out from work and see if it actually is worthy of owning or not. I'll give ya a full report on it if you can wait a week, Jazz. A week after it comes out, that is.

No, because I got extremely bored with LoH1. Not that the games are bad but...get a move on. So, so slow with the story and everything in general. The sluggish pace of the first one ultimately made me look toward Kingdom of Paradise for relief, and much to my surprise I'm now on my 3rd playthrough of it.

Forget either of those games, Lacerta, and get Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. It rocks. The biggest complaint is the minimal save points but hello, sleep mode.

They're noticeable, but not that horrible. Have you picked up Kingdom of Paradise yet? If not, I'd highly recommend it. I've already played through it 3 times now just cuz it's so much fun to pick up and play.

Honestly, if the load times in Astonisha Story bothered you, then don't get Ys, as those are worse.
I had no problem with either AS's or Ys' load times, but like I said if it's that much of a bother to you, might as well not get either one. Kingdom of Paradise, however, has extremely few load times. About the equivalent of Daxter, if you've played that. Oh yeah -- the Killzone Liberation demo is awesome. I love the perspective change from FPS to top-down.

I've been interested in playing both Guilty Gear: Judgment and Bounty Hounds. Anyone picked those up yet?

I really liked Kingdom of Paradise -- played it through five times or so. VJ: Red Hot Rumble is also available on the Gamecube, if you have one of those, and I'd suggest playing it on that system instead.
Check out the two Megaman games, Daxter, and the Valkyrie Profile re-release if you want some really good games, although VP is an RPG so you may or may not like it. Do you have DJ Max Portable yet, Elixir? Jazz was so hyped for it he mentioned it in a sig for a few months.

Got a few minutes to sit down and play the Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters demo. I was gonna make a thread about it and post my impressions in there, but this'll suffice, unless a few people want a thread made. Anyway, on to the impressions.
You're given three places to choose from in the demo -- some time with Ratchet on Pokitaru Island (reminiscent from the first and maybe the second or third games), some time with Clank, and a boss battle. Thus far, I've only played as Ratchet, so my impressions come from that. First off, the graphics. Very pretty. Looks really, really close to what the first game had, which is saying a lot considering the first game was very polished. Good draw distance from what I've seen -- no blurriness looking into the horizon. The cutscenes are beautiful, more than on par with their PS2 counterparts. They're not CG, just further-polished in-game polygons, but they look really good. The sound is everything you'd expect from the series. Nothing's changed, which is entirely a good thing. It's to be expected, since the developers (High Impact Studios) had previous experience with the Ratchet series. All the sound effects are intact, the voice acting has remained the same, all the grunts and groans, etc. I really like the music for Pokitaru Island as well -- it was pretty suiting and fun to listen to. The gameplay's what's really important. In a platformer, it always is. The area I played didn't exploit anything terribly intuitive, since it was a tutorial level of sorts. The good news though is that players of the previous games will have no trouble figuring anything out -- it's the same R&C you've played before, control-wise. The gunplay is as fun as ever, and it's just as easy and seamless to switch between melee and long-range combat. You have the ability to switch to first person view and fire weapons as well. Again, nothing new but nothing bad. In the game, you're given a few weapons and one to buy. Of course, you've got your handy wrench. The Lacerator is your typical blaster, the Acid Bomb is just as it sounds and the Concussion Gun is your basic shotgun. The new weapon is the Bee Mine Glove, which when thrown releases a pack of bees to terrorize your enemies. Pretty fun to watch. You can buy the standard issue flamethrower called the Scorcher for 2500 bolts (easily attainable) as well. So what makes this game new from all the others? Not too terribly much, but there was one awesome concept I ran across and hope to exploit to a much greater degree later on. During the Pokitaru level, you come across pieces of armor. In the previous three games, you just bought a whole set all at once which upgraded your defense. However, in Size Matters your armor does something a little more--when you gather all the pieces (body, gloves, feet, helmet Megaman lolz) your weapon takes on that armor's characteristic. In Pokitaru, you pick up the Wildfire armor set. Getting the whole collection makes your weapon flamable, and your attacks burn your enemies and (presumably) cause more damage. Pretty cool! Beyond that, you gain experience the same way you have before. Beat enemies, experience bar fills up. When it peaks, you get another point of life ala Deadlocked. I didn't see any such bar for the weapons though, so I hope they didn't leave weapon upgrading out of the game. I had a blast playing the first level, and I'll give the others a go shortly. Between Daxter and Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, I'd say Size Matters is shaping up to be a bit of a better game. Have to wait until the endgame to declare that though. I was speaking idiomatically. Both of the Megaman games (Powered Up! and Maverick Hunter X) are incredible. Daxter's a really good platformer, and Valkyrie Profile is ftw of internets all over the place.

I definitely plan on buying and playing Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters and Valhalla Nights, so I'm not even gonna bother with homebrew stuff yet.
I've got an original 1.5 PSP, but I've never tried homebrew on it. Truthfully, I just play the games that are available for it. Infernal, if you guy the new silver PSP, you don't get any demo discs. However! You get a full version copy of Daxter, the Family Guy Freakin' Sweet collection and a 1GB memory stick.

I posted this just a moment ago in the Crisis Core thread, but I'll post it here too for good measure.
