I finally caved in and bought Final Fantasy XII: Collector's Edition. We got it in used, discs were in great shape and everything was intact. With the employee discount / 10% discount card, I only had to pay $35 for it. So yippee.

I know we're having trouble getting copies in our store. In fact, I don't think I've seen another copy come in since the game was released. We got so few to begin with, and if we've received another shipment of the game, it was also a meager supply.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. For I thread I started before the crash, I've been severely neglecting this one. My bad.
With my tax return, I built myself a new computer. 500 GB hard drive, PCI Express-enabled ASUS motherboard, Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz (somethin like that, anyway) processor, 2 1GB sticks of DDR2 SDRAM, and currently one GeForce 7900GS 256MB PCI Express card. I'm gonna buy another one so I can run in SLI mode. Frickin' sweet. That's about it on the hardware side of gaming acquistion. Oh yeah, I bought another PS3 controller and a 60GB SATA hard drive for my formerly 20GB PS3. Sweet. Haven't installed it yet, but it's the exact same drive Sony uses in the 60GB PS3, so yeah. No fear of it working. If it doesn't, well hey it was only $20. On the software side of things, I've picked up a few games here and there. For the PC, I nabbed the World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Collector's Edition at launch since I had it preordered, and I also bought Jade Empire: Special Edition a few weeks after it came out. I'll install and play both of them once my copy of Windows XP comes in the mail. Running on Ubuntu Linux right now, unfortunately. Moving on.For the PS2, I obviously snatched up Rogue Galaxy and it's strategy guide the day they came out. Being the huge Level-5 fan that I am, this was easily a no-brainer. I suppose I'll have to shell out for a DS Lite once Dragon Quest IX comes out, if only to continue to support Level-5 in their endeavors. Still waiting on a North American release of Jeanne d'Arc, guys. Also had to pick up another copy of Legaia: Duel Saga as mine has mysteriously vanished. For the PSP, I've acquired three more titles: Breath of Fire III, Tales of Eternia, and Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters. About BoF3 and Tales; I recently got promoted to Store Manager at one of the new GameStop stores in my area, and it so happened the store I took over had copies of both games in stock. Instant purchase -- got them both for a combined $35. Sweet. I bought Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops when it came out, but after I beat it I traded it in. My PS3's seen a couple of acquisitions as well besides a mere controller. Virtua Fighter 5 and MotorStorm were must-haves as soon as they came in, and I'm waiting to try Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on the PC before I decide whether or not to get it on the PS3. I also finally caved in and bought Blast Factor, flOw, and Tekken: Dark Resurrection. I managed to get my hands on another Gamecube. Buddy of mine didn't want his anymore, so he just gave it to me. I wasn't about to pay for another one, but I was happy enough to take this off his hands. When I traded in the one I had, I got rid of a game that I now wanted to play again, and with this new Gamecube in my possession, I got Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes used. I also broke down and bought Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but not until it came in used. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? Reason: Forgot to include PS3 online purchases
|
Regained my copies of the first three Ratchet & Clank games, officially closing the search for like-new used copies by purchasing the first game tonight.
I had to help with an inventory at another store as well this evening, and stumbled upon the rare copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the PS2. Even more rare -- it had the instruction booklet and the disc was in great condition. How ya doing, buddy? Speaking of recent Wii-game purchases, I made the unfortunate decision to buy NiGHTS. That's a really bad game, and a damn shame too. Not gonna go into detail or anything, suffice it to say all the problems are gameplay-related, in which case should've been almost nothing short of excellence.
Oh well. Also recently picked up Blue Dragon for the 360 and Unreal Tournament III for the PS3. BD's not too bad, I'm just having a hard time getting some good playtime in. Can't seem to stick with it for a good length of time. UT3, however, pwns. Played a kickass online match the other night, but I'm still a noob for lack of ability to adjust to new controls. I'm gettin there though. God, ZOE2 is such an awesome game. I think I'll play it right now, actually.
All I've done recently is pre-ordered Metal Gear Solid 4 and Soul Calibur IV. Not to mention there's still a fair amount of stuff to collect over, at the least, two playthroughs. You have to fight/defeat the more noteworthy Frames to unlock them in Versus mode.
The catch is you have to fight Jehuty Ver. 2 with Naked Jehuty, and then vice versa, and you can only do that in separate runs through the game. Or you can use a GameShark, whatev. I bought this!
The TV's really nice -- great picture and sound quality. It's the first HDTV I've owned, and I went with a brand I trusted. LG has exceptionally high quality for a better price than Sony or Samsung, so I'm very pleased with my purchase. I bought it from Best Buy as an open item deal, so I got a good chunk knocked off the price and bought the in-store warranty for it. Didn't come with a table stand though, sadly. Bought a wall mount for it and it's doing well. I'm just nervous it's gonna tear outta the wall and break. ; ; Jam it back in, in the dark. It's only $7.99 or $8.99 at GameStop, so you're chances of finding it there are pretty good too.

I've made several pick-ups recently and not-so recently. Between this week and last week, I've picked up God of War for the PSP and its strategy guide, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters for the PS2, and Wild Arms XF. I like GoW a lot, but I'm actually get more fond of Wild Arms XF.
Next week'll be the Metal Gear Solid: Essentials Collection and the week after that, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and its strategy guide. How ya doing, buddy? Good. I've been wanting to try out R-Type Command for myself, but I haven't seen a copy around since it came out. Also, Jeanne d'Arc for strategy games. It's not FF Tactics or Disgaea (at least, not as difficult, but then again I kinda suck at SRPGs) It's a really cool title and a lot of fun to play.
I was speaking idiomatically. Okami's a great game, for sure. I paid full price for it and still felt like I more than got my money's worth.
In other news, while it's not a "purchase" I did receive a free copy of Far Cry 2 for the 360. Publisher sent it out a week early as a free gift. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? Anyone had any problems trying to install the PC version? Mine says the setup.exe file is broken and that reinstalling should correct the problem. :/

Actually, it seems like my DVD drive might be failing me. The game's installing just fine on my roommate's computer. Anyway, thanks for the quick responses everyone. I'll probably check the forums just to see what's up anyway.
Goddamn games are supposed to work when they're launched, right? DLC and patches have made developers a little bit lazy; at least it seems that way. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
