First thing I thought of is Bangai-Oh Spirits for the DS, which is a shootan game by Treasure. There's over a hundred missions, all of which are accessible from the start of the game. Each mission should only take a few minutes to complete, so the player can choose to play a few missions and stop.

However, the game can be addictive and also punishingly hard, which meant that I'd typically plan to play for about 15 minutes, attempt one mission multiple times, FINALLY beat it, decide to play just one more stage ... and before I know it, I've played it way past my bedtime!

Jam it back in, in the dark.
