Being a Japanese major graduate, it feels good not needing to wait for subbed versions to come out. Must be tedious.

Just watched episode 16 yesterday and part 2 of the movie today. The movie got worse since I started watching the anime(started with part 1 of the movie and then went over to the anime). It got interesting near the end, but you could tell that most of these people where really bad actors so much of the excitement that was built up in the anime didn't come out as well in the movie. Still watchable, though.

The anime, on the other hand, still rocks. It really starts getting interesting in episode 15 & 16... I can hardly wait for ep.17. I'm even considering reading the manga... :P

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I think they did a good job of computer animating Ryuk. He looked pretty cool.

Read the manga, you get the most story from the manga. If you like the movie or the anime, the manga adds alot of little details that make it more interesting.
Yeah, I think they did a good job rendering Ryuk, too. But there`s a certain charm to him that got lost somewhere in the transition. It`s still there, just not as much.

I might actually take your advice on reading the manga. Not because I want a deeper experience(well, that too..), but because I want to know what happens next. Waiting for a new episode to come out while wanting to know ohw the plot developes is quite hard... But I guess it makes one that much happier when it actually DOES air. I don`t know. I might wait and read the manga after I`ve seen the anime instead. That way I won`t ruin anything in advance. If I had started with the manga it would have been another story, though.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Where can subbed versions of both movies be found?
On THE INTERNET :P . I'm not sure if the second part has been subbed yet, though.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Funny change of subtitles. The only part I didn't like was the text bubbles. Everything else sounded very similar to Yagami Light. This video may be hard to understand if you actually speak Japanese very well.
I thought it was mildly entertaining despite the fact that I can understand the actual spoken dialouge as well. The consistent "way off, but close enough" nature of the subtitles made it quite funny at times. Good find.

On a side note(movie AND anime spoilers within):

Spoiler:
I was actually glad that L died. I haven`t read the manga, but I had seen the movie, and watching them both die in it was a major disappointment for me. Low level scripting, imo. Like they couldn`t decide who should win and took the easy way out by killing them both off. Better then to let only one of them win.

Now that I think about it, Mikami's past was just one chapter, correct? So I suppose the first half of an episode or a few flashbacks are all we should expect, I don't really think they'll extend one chapter into an entire episode, but hopefully what they do will be satisfying. Episode 31 should be out and subbed soon, and Mikami should be in it based on the preview. We should hear something about his past by episode 32, if not 31.
I saw episode 31 just now and I can reveal that:

Spoiler:
Yup, Mikami's in it.

I was speaking idiomatically.
