This is a bit of a deviation, but:
Lava Reef - Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Especially right before the boss arena. The place looked fucking MAGNIFICENT. Chaos Angel - Sonic Advance 3. No other Sonic game beats that "end of the world" feel like this stage does. Jam it back in, in the dark.
