um no, the books themselves are just as much canon as the games, as stated by bungie. they are the official backstory and events leading up to halo 2, and the next novel, ghosts of coral, will be between halo 2-3. completely official and totally canon.

From the review on GT , i think 2 problems i had in halo2 are adresses and 2 things i enjoyed halo1 for.

1.Vehicles, more and not superficial.

Actually Vegas has better gameplay ,addiction,weapons than Halo but HALO AI makes is exceptional.

There will be game based on halo universe, the next project they are working on is peter/weta collaboration.

The ending was really good, the legendary ending does leave open to 3 theories , of what could happen next.

1.MC enters the new planet which is actually earth of future,light years ahead (timeslip).

2.Ghosts of onyx mentions about the planet, it could be that.

3. Or planet of forerunners themsleves.

Best thing about halo3 story is execution, though there are flaws and loopholes but it does leave many vague points open to interpretation.
