A very similar thing happened to me just a couple months ago. I had a friend from high school [Jenn] that was a couple of years older than me, and we sort of fell out of contact after we graduated. I saw her here and there, but that was about it.
Early August, she popped up on Facebook through [I forget exactly where I saw her] and we started talking again. Started playing a bit of WoW together, as well. Anyway, about two days later, about 1am, the phone rang; it was another friend of mine--she talked to my mom for a bit cause I was in the bathroom. She told her that Jenn had been in a car accident and died.
She had just moved to Texas and got married in June of this year. She was dropping her husband off at work, and as she pulled out of the parking lot, he basically watched a transport plow into the side of her car.
I just thought it was weird because we had just started talking again. Bleh.
