Chaotic, I'll try to get to you tomorrow. I doubt I'll be in the right frame of mind to play tonight, but it looks like you have a couple battles lined up anyway.

Okay, so... Wisdom teeth suck. By tomorrow, I should be in the right frame of mind to play, so hit me up! I've already potentially got a match arranged with Crash, but beyond that, I'm completely open until sometime on Sunday afternoon.

So, excluding Crash, I have yet to battle... Black Mage, Generic, radcliff, and Chaotic.

[edit] I just noticed that Xardion is in my Pal Pad, but he's not on the front page anymore. Did he drop out?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I've decided to grin through the pain [the tylenol-4 is working tonight! yay!] and battle with Chaotic. I don't see you yet though! Unless you're just being slow... I thought I might not have had your FC right, but I just checked and it's the right one. Where are you?

Oh there you are! :3 Time for me to get pounded into the ground...

[edit]

Sousuke vs Chaotic:
Round 1 - 6v6:

I managed somehow to OHKO his first 2 Pokemon! I took some hits as well, losing one in the process.

Massive explosions. ._. Caused us both to send out a Pokemon, blind. Chaotic ended up switching his out, and then I started missing all my attacks for a few turns. I took him down, then a sandstorm brought me down to 1 hp. Lucky me.

It came down to the wire, 1v1... But I came out on top.

Round 2 - 3v3:

OHKO time again! I pretty much swept this round. I was quite surprised.

Round 3 - 3v3:

He took down my MONSTER HP Pokemon in one hit. ;_;

And then both of my other Pokemon in one hit each. He was damn fast. Or maybe I was just slow.

Nothing to see here. ._.

Round 4 - 3v3:

This battle started the same way as the last, with Chaotic taking my first down in one hit. I was surprised to see him switch out after that. I was able to take out both of his substitutes, bringing us to 1v1 again, but with me almost dead this time...

Of course, he easily broke me, bringing us to...

Round 5 - 3v3:

The one battle to rule them all! We both ended up switching out our originals in the first two turns, and each took down an opponent. After that, I was THANKFULLY able to OHKO Chief, and finally do away with him.

I took a lucky guess at what his third Pokemon would be, and I was right--Fang. Thankfully, I was right, because I had the perfect counter Pokemon, and ended the battle with him... But not before taking a heavy hit from Hidden Power.

Epic!

Sousuke wins, 3-2!

Sousuke lost 13.
Chaotic lost 14.

Yeah, when I attacked Reaper and saw myself miss, I thought 'OHCRAPNOWIDIE.' And then you used Swords Dance and I was just like.

Yeah, I was pretty much the broom used in Crash's ass-whooping sweep.

This leaves me with Generic, radcliff, and Black Mage to go. I haven't the last two around the thread or online, though.

If I don't get them by the current deadline, I don't mind dropping them. I mean, it'd be a shame to lose two players from the tournament, but if it can't be helped, then I guess it can't be helped.

Holy... That IS a lot to digest. Sounds a little confusing. To be completely honest, all the 'defense numbers' and 'natural tensity' and all that totally fly right over my head. I have no idea what they mean or how they were determined.

As for finishing this tournament, I STILL have to battle the same three leaders. The issue with today is, that it's not only Father's Day, but also my grandmother's birthday, so I'll be going out to a sort of dinner thing at my aunt's place. I'm not sure when I'll be home, but if I had to guess, I'd say around 8pm EST, at which point I'll be able to do some matches, most likely. Ship me a PM [I missed you yesterday, Rad] and we'll arrange something.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Okay, well, I got home late last night, and went straight to bed.

Today's Monday, and I've vowed that I'm not going to do ANYTHING. Maybe I'll go to the store for something cool to drink. Other than that, I'll be home all day, in hopes that I can finish my battles.

Epic match! Probably the toughest I've had so far. Incredibly close one, too.

Sousuke vs Black Mage:
Round 1 - 6v6:

For some reason, I started this match thinking Black Mage was the Poison leader. This, of course, led me into a false sense of... well, not security, but something of the sort. After seeing my first opponent I realized I was way off. FUFUFU. We took down each other's first Pokemon, and then landed at a bit of a standstill on the second. I was tossing everything at it that I could, but it kept healing, and I couldn't switch out due to spikes. Whirlwind switched me out, however. Several times. Combined with Spikes, most of my team was damaged in varying degrees.

After finally taking down his second, Black Mage proceeded to annihilate the rest of my team with Falkor.

Sousuke loses 6, Black Mage loses 2.

Round 2 - 3v3:

I went into this round expecting the same trouble as last time, and changed out my leader. However... He switched out right away, causing me to do the same. Eventually, I got the upper hand, allowing me to finish off the battle on top.

Sousuke loses 1, Black Mage loses 3.

Round 3 - 3v3:

Baton Pass! D: There was a LOT of switching out in this round. I think we both got a feel for what Pokemon we'd end up using, and planned our strategies accordingly... However, due to the constant switching, not much happened. Until Murphy's Law struck. Whenever I tried to use ThunderPunch on Jormungndr, Jock Strap would switch in and absorb it. So I went the other way and used an attack that would actually hurt Jock, and HE DIDN'T SWITCH. Instead, Jormungndr woke up and pounded me. So THEN I tried ThunderPunch again... AND HE SWITCHED.

After a fair bit of SWITCH SWITCH SWITCH, Black Mage finally decided to take me out. D:

Sousuke loses 3, Black Mage loses 1.

Round 4 - 3v3:

This match was fairly uneventful. We each took out each other's first again, and then I resorted to using Ice Beam over and over, hoping to land a freeze. Eventually, I did.... And Jormungndr thawed immediately.

Thankfully I managed to get another hit next turn.

And it paid off. Eventually I was able to take down the rest of the team.

Sousuke loses 1, Black Mage loses 3.

FINAL round - 3v3:

This match had to be all-out. We both tossed everything we could at each other, and well... A lot of switching made this last longer than expected, once again. A lucky Flare Blitz got me one step closer to winning this match, but...

Sousuke loses 3, Black Mage loses 2.

FINAL SCORES: Black Mage wins 3-2!

Black Mage lost 11.
Sousuke lost 14.

Now, I'm just gonna grab something quick to eat, and hopefully radcliff is still around to battle. If you are, I'll be online in a few minutes.

[edit] Epic fail on my part. ;_;

Sousuke vs Radcliff13:
Round 1 - 6v6:

Bah reports. I wasn't sure what to expect going into this battle. At first we traded hits. Quite literally: we both ended up using the same attack. Not much else interesting really happened...

Sousuke loses 4, Rad loses 6.

Round 2 - 3v3:

Move along, nothing to see here...

Sousuke loses 3, Rad loses 1.

Round 3 - 3v3:

After exchanging opening Pokemon, Quick Claw + Hypnosis saved me... for a short while. In the sense that it let me take down one of my opponents. After that, we were both down to one...

Sousuke loses 3, Rad loses 2.

Round 4 - 3v3:

Rad plowed through my team.

Sousuke loses 3, Rad loses 1.

FINAL SCORE: Radcliff13 wins, 3-1.

Sousuke lost 13.
Radcliff13 lost 10.

Sorry about the last report, I'm getting really tired. All I have left to battle is Generic, and I have a feeling that won't be happening tonight. ;_;

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I know it's over and all, but some people [ie: me vs Generic] just didn't get to battle. What are you going to do for the scoring there? Just give both parties a 0? I'd suggest 'awarding' a draw, but I don't know. It's up to you; I'm just curious~

Secret Rules? Bah. I totally agree with Crash here--even though I wasn't part of this round in the tournament, I think that having this 'half-point' idea is totally unfair. Just because Kairyu had the type advantage doesn't mean he should have a handicap--he was assigned that type by luck of the draw.

I'll follow Josiah's page, since this is over for me. It'll be just a little different from his post, however.

Sousuke's Team::
Mains:
Infernape - ThunderPunch was a godsend at times.
Gallade - Having a psychic Pokemon combined with Fight helped. Thunderbolt too.
Poliwrath - Surf and Ice Beam helped in a lot of fights, and Hypnosis won me a battle or two.
Hitmonchan - My EQ-user. Unfortunately he ended up being slower than a lot of opponents, and didn't get to use it often enough.

Subs:
Blaziken - Didn't use him as much as I thought I would. Fire combined with Fight seemed like a good combination [as with Infernape] but the lack of moves OUTSIDE of that combination brought him down.

Lucario - Shiny! I wish I could've used him more. However he seemed to fall faster than anyone else on the team. With a slightly different moveset I probably would've used him in more battles.

Hariyama - I pulled out this 400+ HP beast when I knew I needed to take big hits. Unfortunately... It didn't seem to help much.

Heracross - I think I only used this one once or twice, when I needed a Bug move.

Medicham - I don't think I even used this Pokemon. I just had it there cause the selection for my type was considerably smaller than pretty much everyone else's, and I needed to fill the slot.

And that's all. I think.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I hope you're prepared for the average imbalance of the game mechanics the next go-around (if you decide to enter).
Oh, I totally understand the game's mechanics, but what you've tried to imply for tournament rules is a little unsettling. Like Kairyu mentioned at some point, we KNEW that with our types, we'd be entering some battles at an advantage or disadvantage, depending on our opponents. That's why it was a 'Gym Battlers' tourny.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

To be honest, these 'rules' weren't implemented until Sand Brain showed up a couple of days ago. I thought everything was running smoothly until then.

Nothing against him, [her?] though.

I got an interesting idea for the top four last night, if you guys are interested. An 'Elite Four' challenge, if you will. Simple rules would apply, just like the tournament, but with a couple small modifications:

From first page:
RULES:
  • Battles will be done at the lv.100 preset in 6-on-6 format.
  • No Legendary Pokémon and Wobbuffet. Gym leaders are too awesome for that.
  • Sleep Clause: At any one time only one pokemon on your opponent's team can be put to sleep by you.

However, I'd imply the following as well:
  • Elite Four: Make a team of SIX, from your Gym Leader team. Choose your 'best' six.
  • Challengers: Make a team of SIX, out of your absolute best Pokemon. Keep in mind that there's no Legendaries or Wobuffet.
  • Once the battles are started, rosters and move pools may not be edited. You can, however, change the order of your roster, allowing you to open with a different Pokemon if you wish.

From there, the challengers would battle the Elite Four, in order, just as they would in-game. This is just a suggestion to 'challenge' the winners in a different fashion. I think it could be fun, just to see if the winners teams can stand up against a broader team. That, and because we sort of cut the tourny short.

Thoughts?

I think it's not so much to determine a Champion, per se, but more of a test of both sides' abilities.

About items... I think to be fair we'd have to set the same rule for both the Four and the Challengers. So either have items locked, or not locked--whichever we decide, should we actually go for this.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Only question I have is, and assuming it is an ongoing thing. Do we let anyone go at it?
Glad you like the idea. Basically, I wasn't implying for it to be an ongoing thing, but it could be. Basically I was going to suggest opening 'registrations' similar to how you did this tournament, that way there would actually be an end. XD But then...
Or will there some requirements before they can pursue the Champion title? Like collecting badges across the forums or having a certain amount of victories. Now that I think about it. It almost sounds like an RP'ing idea than a tournament.
I kind of like this idea too, but that means everyone in the current tourny would have to battle the challengers as well, for badges. I don't know, I kind of like the idea, but it seems a little complicated.

Crash, I like that idea for selection. And the idea to shorten matches from five battles to three. Sorry Kairyu, but some matches in this tournament just took too long. xD

The other thing is though, do we want to open another tournament right away, or should we wait a while [a week or two?] first?

While you're probably right about the live draft, Crash, I have to admit doing it entirely by PM might take a fairly long time, as well. We could probably try to get as much done as possible via IRC or some other messenger, and after that's exhausted, move to PMs?

Just a suggestion.

Both move pools adjustments and hold items adjustments will be allowed for this tournament.
This is the ONLY thing I disagree with, upon reading that. I'm not sure I like the idea of movepool adjustments being allowed between matches. Other than that, everything looks good to me. I think.

I totally agree with being allowed to switch items between battles, so long as you have the item and didn't suddenly decide "Oh, I'm gonna go get this, hold on a few minutes." or something.

It's just the movepool idea that bothers me. I think that instead of adding 'strategy', it'll simply allow you to tailor your team to be able to pound someone else's team. If you go in with one movepool, you'll have to strategize being able to take down everyone with the same pool, adding more strategy to the tournament.

The 'one-use' rule for Sleep/Double Team is fair, but referring to Sleep Clause: You can only put a Pokemon to sleep once per round. That implies that Sleep can be used as many times as needed, but only allowing it to hit once.

Which is it going to be?

About my view of Sleep Clause: I thought it meant that you could use sleep [assuming it hits] only once per battle. In subsequent battles with the same opponent, your one 'use' of Sleep would be enabled again.

Crash's explanation of being able to only put one Pokemon to sleep at a time, and being able to do it again after they wake up... well, I never even considered that. Heh.
