I'm a big fan of Yoko Kanno. I'm very impressed by her composing skill, I always compare her to big names such as Sugiyama, Kondo, and Haneda.
I totally agree with your post, Kanno's professionalism and talent is undeniable, but yes, she doesnt get much attention a lot from VGM fans, probably because she does more work on anime.
But not all of her albums are enjoyable for me, especially the movie ones (Ashura no Jo, Jin Roh). I think, her most fantastic album is Shimotsuma Monogatari aka Kamikaze Girl. In this album, she blended rock, techno, light jazz, ragtime, classical, and french musics in one package.
And CMIW, John Williams (composer of Star Wars?) is actually a big fan of Yoko Kanno.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
You all think you got good deals, huh? Ha! You frugal and observant shoppers have more to learn.
None of that approaches this:

The Mr. Methane CD, purchased over ebay for .01¢. Yeah, free shipping. This guy performs all sorts of neat stuff, including the doot doot, doot doot from the Blue Danube.
Allow me to share a track from this CD. Here ya go.
