I am actually in the middle of the game, and it is my first time playing it.

It's very polished and tight.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

What makes Silent Hill more scary is what you don't see.

Silent Hill messes with your head. A constant suffocating feeling permeates all that is around you. It evokes a sense of hoplessness and loneliness, and yet you know something is out there. It is extremely psychological and much more cerebral than Resident Evil.

A room that you swear is empty still makes you do a double take.

You open a door, or a case, expecting something to happen, something to jump out at you.

But nothing. Nothing at all.

Or was it.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Resident Evil and Silent Hill both have their fair share of fetch the key to open this door. It's not the problem-solving that makes Silent Hill a more cerebral game.

It's the psychological oppression and mind games Silent Hill offers you. It's the incessant industrial pounding punctuated by the soundtrack. It's the constant thick fog, especially in SH1 and SH2 that's surrounding you. It's how your flashlight can only let you see ten feet in front you while you're running outside in the dark, and your radio is blaring white noise (i.e. something is close by, but you can't see it).

Silent Hill does have its share of action sequences as well, it's not "kill the occasional demon". More like, "kill a bunch of these things that look so messed up I don't even want to know what they were."

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Silent Hill definitely leaves a lot to your imagination. You come across hallways like this:

There's no explanation. You're left wondering about the bullet holes. About the blood. About what could possibly be down that elevator shaft.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

This is actually true...

But the scare factor isn't in the threat of the enemies. It's in the atmosphere.

RE4 isn't scary at all.

It does have some tense moments here and there. But you'll probably be having too much fun blasting things to notice.

How ya doing, buddy?

Spatula just wanted to know how scary RE4 is. If it is at all.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Ammo really isn't an issue in RE4. Show no mercy.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
