I'm more astounded by the fact that Bowser is in the 100m dash. At least Eggman has legs to run with.

I know he can move, but whether he can actually run is another matter entirely. Wasn't he always classified as a "Power" character and automatically became the slowest out of most of the others by default? I mean, all I ever see him doing in the sports games is scuttling and/or wobbling slowly towards something.
