on PSP firmware updating

It has just dawned on me that.. new games aren't working on my PSP anymore lolz. So I thought of updating the firmware. I am currently using 3.71 M33-3 . I am planning to update the firmware. My first question is:

"Should I update to the latest firmware or just a a version or so up?"

The second is:
"If I upgrade firmwares, will I still be able to play some of my older games??" Take Tales of Destiny 2 and DJ Max Portable 2 for example

the last question:
(This will probably be a bit stupid but I don't want to take any chances)
"When updating my firmware, like for example 3.71 to 3.80, do I still need to install 3.72 and 3.73?? or do I just install 3.80 right away?"

I've only tried the pops on 3.71 twice.. both games freeze very very often on me lols. I was playing Xenogears and Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. I thought Dax wasn't doing PSP anymore?? Or was it just firmwares ^^'. I'll go check Dax's site for the 4.01 m33-2.

So I just install 4.01m33 then 4.o1 m33-2? No need to get the version between 3.71 and 4.01?

@RYU: Its ok I have most of them already from my last try of xenogears and persona 2. Unless someone else in the boards needs it
