The thing is, it's 11 kills using AA, not killing 11 people in aircraft. The trick is to go kill a bunch of infantry using a mobile AA. I got my AA ribbon back before patch 1.2 when the missiles couldn't hit anything (except friendlies).

Hey guys. Since I have returned to the internet I suppose I can play BF2 with you again. I'll have to fire up xfire again. My handle on there is chanic, and my BF2 name is [1MI]Gunmetal.

Actually, this information is still in the first post of this thread.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

2142 is probably being rushed out so it can compete with the other Battlefield-y games coming out this season. Namely, Crysis and Quake Wars: Enemy Territory.

Hehe, true. Although, I bet by the time it comes out it will be more or less the same as BF2 in terms of gameplay. If that's the case, I'll probably just stick to Bf2 anyway.

That's why I play with my clan. Well, when I can.

It's pretty amazing how much damage an organized squad can do.

Hmm... never heard of a rank restriction before, and I doubt all of the squads were locked (marked by a little padlock icon). Were you trying to join squads before spawning or while you were dead? A couple of patches ago they made it so you can only join squads while you're alive (to stop the phenomenon known as squad rotation).

Heh, amazing what simple things EA didn't think of.

Instead they went and made a whole new game using the same engine (BF2142) where the spawn points are protected by force fields. Good job EA!

Ugh... I'm stuck in the 1st Sgt. no man's land of rank-ups. For some reason it is the biggest gap between ranks, 30,000 points. It is tied with the Colonel -> Brigadier General gap for largest, and all of the ranks between here and there, and even after, are smaller. They all range from 10,000 to 25,000.

Also, in kit badges, I got my expert engineer badge, so now I'm left with expert badges for all the other kits. Each of which requires 100 hours as that kit.

The bright spot is, if I run over 5 guys in a round, I get veteran transport, and I can always get the ground and air defense badges, since they took out the time requirements. Still, it's gonna be soooo loooonng before I see another rank up.

Oh, here is me: http://bf2s.com/player/44867686/

Gunnery Sarge to 1st Sarge = 12,000
1st Sarge to Sgt. Major = 30,000

When you get to 1st Sarge, you have a total score of 20,000. So just imagine, you have to do all the playing you have done thus far in the game, plus another half, to get to the next rank at 50,000.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The best part is, I registered a name just in case I decide to ever get it. The name I wanted was taken, so I made a new one with two words connected by an underscore. When I played the 2142 beta, names with underscores couldn't be used.

So, EA might have let me register a name I can't even use. Awesome huh?

BF2142 discussion aside for a moment.

If you like racing games, go get this mod:

http://br.sircommunity.com/

I suppose you should also get it if you like being a turret gunner in a combat racing game.

Or did no one see it since gaming skipped right past it?

KrazyTaco: I am not sure what you said about engineer class, but in this the focus is on the car racing. There is only a driver class, which gets a knife, pistol, wrench, and flare gun (a modded silenced pistol that now shoots aircraft defense flares. No real purpose, just there for entertainment value).

And this mod is by the Sir community. On the forums there is already a discussion of how to make being a spectator more exciting, and there is actually some code in the mod already for a lawn chair "vehicle" for spectators, so I'm pretty sure they plan to implement a lot more in the future. There is also talk of implementing a demolition derby game mode in a future release too.

Skexis: Most races use the USMC buggy, but modded. The driver gets the use of a hood-mounted mini-minigun to shoot at other drivers. If a second player wants to ride with you, they can man the .50 cal on the back. The third seat has been modded to remove the LMG, so you can repair your car without getting out of it.

There is also a slow-recharging but extremely powerful afterburner boost.

I hope that explains the mod a little better. It is a racing game, but shooting and ramming is very much a part of it. It is generally a lot more fun to shoot someone till they light on fire or explode than it is to just pass them.

I'm impressed. I was bored today so i tried sending my team's titan out of bounds. Strangely enough, there is code that makes it stop before it reaches the boundary. Bravo EA/Dice, you have surpassed my expectations of you.

BF2142 reminds me of a lot of stuff. They basically just ripped off every other sci-fi shooter in order to make their game.

The gunships, hovertanks, and walkers are straight out of Planetside, and I've heard a lot of people say how much certain things remind them of UT2K4, but I never played it so I don't really know.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Well, this is interesting:

When you open the box, a big slip of paper falls out first, preceeding any discs or manuals. The slip of paper says, essentially, that 2142 includes monitoring software which runs while your computer is online, and records "anonymous" information like your IP address, surfing habits (probably via cookie scans), and other "computing habits" in order to report this information back to ad companies and ad servers, which generates in-game ads.
Original is here, but that's most of it anyway: http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=13049860

So, I think I just won't buy it now. I was willing to tolerate the full game price for what was basically another mod, just as long as the game was good. But now it turns out, not only is it still full-game price, the are making extra money by putting ads in the game, and spying on your computer to do so. I knew EA was money-grubbing, but this is by far a new low.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Here's a picture of the paper announcing the ad-ware.

Also, here's a pic of the in-game ads at work. Mcdonalds!

Just so you have an idea of how bad it is.

Okay, sounds like things have been blown out of proportion, as usual.

The general consensus I am seeing now, is that the program is not actually spyware that searches your computer for information about you. Instead it's a monitoring program that determines how long you look at an add in game. It also records your IP address, so it knows what adds to display (ads for American products if your IP adress is in the USA, ads for European products if your IP is European, etc.).

I'll admit that this is a lot better than previously thought, but it still doesn't change the fact that EA is forcing us to look at ads while not giving us any benefits in return.

Now I'm starting to wonder if that pic was photoshopped. It looks kind of odd. Not that I think real in-game adds would be any better. I remember playing the Verdun map in beta, and it had big bilboards everywhere with some generic logo on them. I'm sure they'd all be adds in the retail version.

Edit: Here's a bunch of screenshots of the placeholder textures for what will be adds

I was speaking idiomatically.

Just another idea. How about mods in addition to the expansion packs?

They'd actually be easier to do, because all you need to run a mod is the base BF2; the mods are free.

Glad you took charge, Freelance Wolf.
