[Question] The Gamingforce Game of the Year 2014: All aboard the hype train - voting edition

Mario Kart 8 - 40
It's been great playing multiplayer with you guys. 12 players online! Who knew Nintendo could make this happen? Not I. It's a great game and the DLC packs just make it even better. Could it have slightly better character selection? Maybe but what it has is pretty darn good and really it's the tracks and gameplay that matters for a racing game that matters and there is a ton of amazing everything there. Would pay for 2 or 3 lap N64 Rainbow Road DLC options and a DLC pack for actual battle arenas. Other than that it is the best Mario Kart game!

Super Smash Bros for Wii U - 20
It's more Super Smash Bros. A shit ton of characters, better gameplay than Brawl, 8 player Smash, and lots of options. They added customization options for characters now and of course that includes Miis and dressing them up. I wish it was a bit easier to get all those parts but collecting things is part of the fun of Smash Bros when you aren't playing with people. There isn't a big Adventure mode like in Brawl so none of that really fun interaction between franchise characters is a bit of a bummer but at least we got it in the new character reveals. The hype leading up to release was handled very well. I think the cast of characters is very good but even though there's like 50+ characters now it just feels like there should have been more. I really hope DLC fixes that and that Mew Two is not the only thing we get. Speaking of DLC the only other downloadable content is a free Miiverse stage that we've heard nothing about since the Smash Nintendo Direct months ago. I'm not actually that big a fan of the stage selection this time around. I think Brawl honestly had more variety there and the split of stages between the 3DS and Wii U versions is questionable. Nearly all the stages on the 3DS are from Brawl or from games originating on consoles. These console stages like Magicient should have been on the Wii U and they should have done a better job to create more handheld originating only stages for the 3DS. I'd definitely pay for a DLC pack that brought Brawl and console originating 3DS stages to the Wii U. There is nothing wrong with more choice and some of the decisions made for these games is baffling at times. What's with cutting the music from Brawl from its full length down to two minutes? What's with all the Jungle Hijinx remixes? You hire a bazillion composers and your new content is that? You have a fucking Blu-ray disc to utilize this time. Fill that asshole up to the brim! I understand that there is a shit ton of stuff packed into the game but the game does kind of feel like what Brawl should have been gameplay wise but with not nearly enough content considering the amount of time between new iterations of Smash. I am really concerned that this is what we're getting and besides Mew Two and the Miiverse stage Sakurai is done until he feels like he has to drag himself back into the director's chair on the next Nintendo console since it's his baby. Everything has to have his personal touch and while a team at Nintendo and Bandai Namco could certainly make content for this game for 2 to 4 years easily if handled properly I just don't see Sakurai letting that happen somehow. So okay I've complained a shit ton about this game but only because I really like the franchise a lot. It's a fun as hell game and a big celebration of everything Nintendo and for some reason I don't think it really is as much of a celebration of Nintendo as it could be and that a lot has been overlooked.

I haven't actually played many games this year, I'll have to think about it and get back to adding more and perhaps changing points for these two. Or probably just Smash. (Edit: yup just smash from 40 to 20 b/c Sakurai is a hack even though I still really like his game) Mario Kart definitely deserves 40 points.

EDIT: I looked at Diss' post and realized I had two games from this year that I played and really loved the hell out of.

Ultra Street Fighter IV - 10
I had a crazy amount of fun with the punch crew. I am horrible at this game but I fucking love it. Ibuki time is all about the jumps and not blocking and not ever doing supers or ultras because you can't learn bupkis. I doubt I'll ever get truly acceptable at this game but I'll eat my burgers with pride with you gentlemen as long as you'll tolerate me.

La-Mulana - 30
I haven't gotten as mad or as sleep deprived or as totally invested in a game as I have in a good while as I did with La-Mulana. This game is amazing. It's been basically the prove you are a true man hogan event of the year. Yes, I required prodding through my delirium from my spirit guides CHz and diss but I made the journey and I am so happy that I did. Garr is still going through it. He and Face accidentally activated hard mode but super hogan'd through anyway. Erik is about to start. We are all doomed. Load a musket with curry powder and live bats and shoot yourself in the face.
