So I started playing single player alpha this weekend. I decided to stream after watching two hours of Tylor. Term and Juanzen were the only ones watching but I had fun despite that.

I saved the broadcast. Feel free to watch. I'm not exactly the best host but it'll give you a vague idea of what the game is like.

Notch released survivor multiplayer today so I figured I'd open up a few ports and try it out. I invited Qwarky and Boo in to test it out. Q was at work at the time so Boo got first dibs and holy shit a couple hours later I came back to check it out. Qwarky and/or Boo my hat is off to you. Amazing stuff, guys.

Basically the server is just a window with a text log that you can interact with through command line and a list of players currently online. It's not really much beyond that.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Unless dropped items eventually disappear I think I have a way around the whole chests not working and losing your items after disconnecting from multiplayer problem. Just build a big hole in the ground and then drag and drop all your shit from your inventory and put it in the hole. If you don't want people to steal it then close the hole up. I tested this and it seems to work. Watch me log in later and boo and mo0 have raided my stash.

Please wait until it is clear that Minecraft is good to update. The servers are bogged down from everyone scrambling to get the update and an influx of new players because of that Penny Arcade comic. ALSO MORE IMPORTANTLY the new update includes a fabulous GRAY SCREEN OF DEATH. Just wait it out until things are good.

Notch has fixed the gray screen of death. Delete your current minecraft.exe launcher and download the new one from minecraft.net (which has been reduced to a very basic website to offset bandwidth issues) or you might face update issues.

Also for those that don't want to pay for Minecraft but would really like to try it out Notch has made it free for this weekend as a result of all this trouble.

Oh, I have no idea what's going on there. Probably has something to do with there being an actual SMP server on gamingforce.org which I have no idea if anyone is actually using it. I have two SMP servers right now. The main one I have modifications and access to kits and the second one is more vanilla made primarily for Boo to flex his skills without any "cheating". If you'd like to check out either of these then give me a PM.

I think Notch probably will finish Minecraft one day with only small updates every now and then valve style afterward and then make another game. That's probably one reason why he's set up a company.

I hope notch gets SMP up to date with single player features so that he can work on getting more cool stuff into the game.

Health works in multiplayer. Inventory works in multiplayer (well if you don't count the chest exploit).

Anyone happen to know how my server got posted on 4chan? My server got wrecked. I made a backup thankfully but still.

Just curious which backup plugin do you use? I have since implemented a white list that has taken care of the problem but it would be nice to have backups too. Like I said earlier I just happened to be looking at my server when I noticed unknown players wandering about and decided I should do a quick copy/paste of the server. Had I not been there the server would have been trashed to high hell.
